SSDI

I received this packet in the mail; functional assessment from SSDI. End result it asks about 50 questions. Does this form weight alot on their decesion. I honestly think it is truly jacked up the questions they ask.

End result; I am able to take a shower that makes me functional!!!

Should I answer short and to the point since they have all my records?

Should I submit my own letter with it?

Is this a good sign?

Hello All- I just received my SSDI award letter. My packet is already at the IPEB at Ft. Lewis and has been there for a month. Should I get this award letter into my packet for the IPEB to see? Thank you!!!!

I would not. It should make no difference. I would be concerned that they (leadership) will use this info to make your life worse.

No kidding. Thanks!! I just heard today that the PEB already voted and my packet is being typed and sent to the VA. So basically, it's to late anyway.

Your reciept of SSDI benefits does not concern the military or VA in any way, if I were you don't go advertising that you have extra money floating around so the DoD can take some from you by a false claim of punishment and/or reduction in rank...

Receipt of SSDI is evidence that you cannot work. This may support a 100% VA and military rating. The VA is better about considering this (there is clear case law that they have to consider SSDI findings in making their decision) than the military is.

The only time I would have a concern with submitting it is if there are other disabilities that are not in the line of duty or not service connected that are the basis for SSA's finding that you are unable to engage in substantially gainful activity.

Gotcha thanks!

Gotcha thanks!

I submitted my SSDI award letter to the VA Rep when my case was going through the IDES process.

The VA gave me a "proposed" 100% unemployable.

But I just got my final, post-discharge VA determination, and it just says 100% permanent & total.

Nothing about the unemployable part.

But I suspect the SSDI letter did do some good.

The VA told me to send my SSDI letter in also and I did. My question to Jason is that the SSDI letter never stated why I was getting it. I did go to the SS office and ask and they gave me a copy of the same letter I got the first time. The only thing I gave the SS office was my mental health records and one page stating that I had a L4 fracture and osteoporosis. I can only guess that they never got anything else since it was determined in less than 30 days. That is just info but the thing is my SSDI paperwork does not state why I'm getting it.

SSA is supposed to send your initial receipt of findings stating your amount of benefit, but also the "rational" behind their decision should be enclosed at the same time or shortly after.

pittpan2005 is right on the money.

You should have rec'd a detailed finding from SSDI/SSA.

Try calling the 1-800 SSA number and see if they can send you a complete copy of your SSDI findings.

I did received the letter at the beginning and when I read something here on this site, I asked again and got the same letter again. There is nothing on it explaining why I'm getting SSDI. I just got a request from SSDI 2 weeks ago asking all the same info all over again when I first applied. I went to SS office and asked why and it was because someone who was reviewing my case did not look info up in the computer. I guess it was to hard or to much work. The case worker stated it was in the system and was completed very well and she would notify the individual. I hope that takes care of that for 3 years until the next review.

I just know again reviewed my claim sheet and it does not state any reason why I'm getting it. Maybe it was like MH on base, they were afraid to tell me how crazy I really am. It took over 4 months to get my MH records from the base and a lot of fighting. Even the VA treads lightly when we talk about things in my records, I really don't think I'm that bad off. I first looked at it because of the thread on this site about being turned in for fear of abusing the system, but I also don't go around telling people I'm getting SSDI. I also don't feel I'm abusing the system but I do do stupid things only to regret it 2 minutes later.

Just had my SSDI appt. today, they approved it to go past the office this time. 90-day wait till final word, unless I get a job before that lol!
