Submitted VARR, what's next?

USMC 5 years was found UNFIT by the PEB, so I requested an FPEB to have a condition added and increase ratings, and my DES lawyer recommended I cancel it. So I did, which would have helped my overall DOD rating increase, but they didn't think I had a strong case. However, it's @ 50%. The attorney submitted a VARR and the VA just finished the VARR and it was in my favor.. It won't change my DOD rating, but I figured I would fight it before I am medically retired.... my question is, what's next? What does the process look like now that I'm almost done? Does my case go back to the PEB? Thanks for the help and any insight!

Okay. That makes no sense. If the VARR increased your % then it would change your DOD%. So if its in your favor and went up your DOD% goes up. VARR are only allowed to be done for unfitting conditions and the PEB must use the VA's ratings for the DOD% for IDES.

If your rating was increased due to a VARR then your form will be modified with the higher DOD% to match what the VA rated you via VARR. Every time a change is needed to the final form there are checks and balances so it may take a couple of weeks to complete everything so that everyone signs off on the updated form. I don't remember what the marines form looks like. In the army its a DA199 form where your final results are listed and completed.

The VARR for 1 condition was originally 10% and increased to 20%, so it was only a 10% increase. Based on the VA calculator, it didn't increase my overall rating of DOD%... I had 2 referred conditions, one condition is 40% and the other 20%....

k gotcha. So increased but didn't push total DOD%. You didn't mention you had more than 1 unfitting conditions haha.

As long as you hit 30% or higher you are golden. The percentage doesn't matter much after for people that haven't been in a long time as long as they hit 30% DOD or higher. For most Soldiers they end up with only VA compensation and tricare. Any VA compensation received will offset your chapter 61 pension. So you are good. Look up CRSC and if you qualify you can submit an application to your branch of service. You can't get more than your longevity pension earned back so it won't be much. If you are BRS then your longevity % is about 10% of your HIGH 3 only. So maybe you can get a few extra hundred bucks from CRSC after getting out and applying.

Okay awesome! Yes Tricare and CRSC will be the next steps once I’m out, since it was combat related. So I’m just waiting on checks and balances and my retirement date
