This morning I received this email:

The TDRL office has received your most recent VA rating and has pushed it to the Informal Physical Evaluation Board for review. Please allow approximately 14 business days to receive a decision on your case. Upon board decision, an email will be sent to you with a copy of your findings.

I did not have a recent VA re-examination as I’m 100% P&T. My VA rating for the MEB condition is the same as my DoD rating, but the VA rating for the MEB condition is permanent, due to being P&T.

Question:

Will they just look at the VA rating for the MEB’d condition and mirror it? I’m assuming.

Okay. I didn't want to speak out of turn about how the individual branches do it. I can only speak for what Navy does.

Update (Answer per AFI guidance): AFI 36-3212

8.5.1. AFPC/DPFDC queries the VA for the most current rating within 16 months from placement on TDRL.

8.5.1.1. If the VA rating is sufficient for adjudication, the TDRL office will forward to the Informal PEB for review.

8.5.1.2. If the VA rating information is deemed insufficient or not completed for adjudication, AFPC/DPFDC will initiate contact with the member to either schedule a TDRL medical examination with a military installation or give them the option to visit their civilian doctor. (T-3).

They forwarded my case to the IPEB using my most recent VA rating for the MEB’d condition that placed me on TDRL, due to being within 16 months (12 months exactly) at the time of my TDRL re-examination.

Currently awaiting results.

Interesting, didn’t know they did this, but please be sure to post what happens. Hopefully they just switch you to PDRL. I’m also Air Force and was placed on TDRL 1 month after you and was also awarded P&T after separating, haven’t heard anything yet though.

I didn’t know this was a route they could take either and that’s what I’m hoping myself. I’ll keep you posted.

Today, I logged into MyFSS, created a non-CAC login and within my TDRL open case file I found updated/signed official documentation (AF Form 356, IPEB) that was actually signed today that I’m now “TDRL to Permanent Retirement” with no changes of the rating of my TDRL Condition. They used my most recent VA rating, since I was within 16 months (12 Months exact) of my TDRL examination.
