Think I'm starting this week.

Met with my new primary care manager two weeks ago just so he could become familiar with me.

Just a little back story but I basically have degenerative disc disease in the lumbar area . Four degenerated discs, two with tears and pain running through my hips and legs. I've tried all of the usual treatments such as PT, chiropractor, massage, nerve ablation and meds. I was turned down three times for a spinal fusion which I'd hoped would be my saving grace. Of course now I'm now ready to put my oh so short lived army career behind m .

My PCM looked at my chart and saw that I'd been through treatment and on/off for about 19 months and suggested a meb. He said we would meet this upcoming week to talk about it.

What does this mean exactly? You guys have given all sorts of great advice for those already in the MEB/PEB pipeline but I couldn't find anything for those who haven't quite started it yet. What should I expect? Should I bring anything? What types of questions should I ask? I'm a little nervous and don't want to do anything to screw it up or prolong the process. Thanks in advance!

Just am update. Looks like I'll be put on a permanent profile within the next few weeks and have my case formally submitted to a medical eval board.

Are you on a med board and how many years in service? What caused the "injury"

Not on medboard yet. My current temp profile says "Will start medboard" under the expected recovery date. I've got just over two years in service. I know that's extremely short but my body is breaking down at a pretty quick rate. I wasn't a thick body who never exercised either. Just bad genes I guess. The tears came from weightlifting in AIT I guess. Either that or rucking every weekend.

If the Doc puts you on a meb your imaging as in x-rays will be rated by the VA from 0%-100%. It all depends on your range of motion, how long you can stand and sit for, and pain levels. It's all about how each individual injury will effect your employment and life.

Just an update if anyone's interested. I've officially started the process. Timeline is below. I know this process can take an extremely long time and I'll probably be bugging you guys in the future with a ton of questions.

One more update. Looks like I'm going through the process at a pretty quick speed. Luckily I'm on rear detachment right now so getting paperwork and to appointments is pretty easy.

I started in late December 2015. I just got my rating back last week. Hopefully, you won't get screwed by a severance pay. Don't settle for anything less than 30% and continue to seek care.
