Ton of questions about PEB timelines/eas/etc

Hey dudes,

So I was put on LIMDU in April and referred to PEB in October. Did all my VA exams by November 19th. Met with the IDES attorney mid December and signed the board/mailed it to wherever the hell it goes on the 14th of December.

My MEBLO (CampPen) is saying 264 days, my RCC is saying 90...What's the timeline from here? When should I find out fit/unfit? When should I expect my ratings/EAS?

Additionally, I've got 60 days of leave on the books, and my RCC is telling me medical retirements rate 30 days of PTAD. Is there any documentation of this? How does it work? He said I'll get my ratings by late February and have 10 days to sign them. After I sign them, I start checking out and then HQMC (MMSR-4) will update my EAS to take into account my leave days and 30 days PTAD. At that point, I check out and kick off on PTAD/Terminal.

How fast is the board process going right now? I keep hearing it'll take 3/4s of a year, or 2 months. I know that the PEB shuts down for the holidays...and I'm stressing because I'm trying to plan my post-Marine Corps life and there are a ton of unknowns.

Following. My signed medical board package went up to the PEB this month as well. The system says that my medical board package was accepted on 15 Dec 15 and then I got an MOL message on 4 Jan 16. Looks like we are literally on the same exact time frames for right now so I will update you via this thread if I hear about any changes etc. I'm hoping it doesn't take as long as some people are telling you. My PEBLO said they are backed up, but 264 days seems extremely long just for this phase. I checked my ebenefits account and it has moved from "gathering of evidence" to "under review" but honestly I have no idea what this even means. More than likely it just means that they are looking me over and the long waiting period has begun. Good luck, I hope it moves quickly for you as that would more than likely mean it will do the same for me.
 
PEB accepted my case 13 Oct 15. I still haven't heard fit/unfit. I hear they are backlogged, but nobody seems to know how long it will take. I'll update whenever I hear something.
I did see a Marine's PEB mailed in Aug, now has an EAS of EOM Feb with an approved disability discharge.

Everyone, I am in the same boat as you. I just started the IDES process. However, I do know what the timeline is expected to be. If you check out images found at: https://www.google.com/search?q=IDE...To7ZfKAhUFRyYKHTCmAvwQsAQIKw&biw=1064&bih=638
you will find the expectations. For Army personnel, you can get on AKO and find information under Self Service > "my MEB/my PEB".

Basically, the whole process is supposed / allowed to take 305 days. It breaks down (to include all possible appeals) as
MEB = 100 days (140 for RC)
PEB = 120 days
Transition = 45 days (the 45 day goal may be exceeded to allow the SM to take authorized leave and permissive TDY)

In the end, given the speed at which I progressed for MEB referral to results of MEB I guess that it is possible to get through the process within 100 days if there are no appeals and no leave taken.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but that is a guideline is a goal. Use it to see what is next and what your deadlines are but don't expect anyone else's deadlines to be met. Hope that they will be but expect that they won't. I've been in IDES 21 months and counting. There are people on here that have been in this system even longer.

Just also understand that 21 months is not the normal right now even with the case backlog. I would say that you should wait 3 months for UNFIT/FIT and 3 months for ratings and then 2 weeks tell you get an eas date.

Absolutely agree, just wanted to put it out there since there have been several people lately using the dates on the chart as a reference. Bottom line is everyone's case is different and what everyone wants in their outcome is different which can cause the extended time in their timeline.
 
I just got an email from my PEBLO out of the blue (apparently she's the exception when it comes to PEBLO's because she is always there to help) and she said;

"They sent your package to the Informal Board on 12/29. The Informal Board has not pulled it yet for review."

Basically it was sent out a month ago and they have not even gotten to it yet. I'm not complaining though, I expected this. I just wanted to update you guys so we can compare notes. I'm sure the Marine Corps can find plenty of stupid things for me to do while I wait.

Hey bud just to let you know the times for me right now was about 3 weeks after they Informal Board they should pull it for review. Mine is currently under review so hopefully I should be able to give you timelines as Iam about a month ahead of you.

0311eblow the PEB accepted my case on 5 Nov and nothing has been done with it. The only thing they done was the initial review before they accepted it to ensure nothing was missing.

Hey brother. So youve got a lot of acccronyms im not famliar with in here but here is my experience. I am an army nurse and i work at the hospital where my MEB is taking place. That being said everything is moving pretty fast compared to the past. Once you sign your NARSUM and send off your packet for ratings its takes about 3-4 weeks to get ratings back. If you decide to appeal the decision comes back in about the same 3-4 weeks. If you appeal and they deny you, they require a formal MEB in San Antonio, which, if you talk with your attourney that will assigned to your case, you can waive that board and simply submit a VARR (VA ratings reconcideration) which can take anywhere from 7-14 days to get an answer on. If you do the formal board you will have a decision before you leave. Now, if you simply sign your first initial set of ratings you get. Your packet goes off to be approved which doesnt take long at all then it gets sent to someone where you are stationed and from the time it hits that persons desk, a 90day clock is started. From which you will be out. It can happen faster than 90days but no longer than. It depends greatly on how much leave you have saved up. Some people end up having to sell back some leave. Hope this helps.

Wait so your case was mailed out before the 5th and you got the conformation that they got it on the 5th? Is it under review do you know?

There is 2 statuses that i know of
1: received
2: under review
 
I got the "Your medical board has been accepted by the PEB" or whatever the vernacular is, on Dec 29th, about 2 weeks after I mailed it in. My eBenefits also says, "12/19/2015 Pending Decision Approval" and "Development Letter Sent"

Can someone explain this a bit more?

Yes. It was sent electronically to the PEB on 4 Nov and they accepted the case on 5 Nov. My PEBLO said that the PEB does an initial review to ensure all docs are present before they accept the case. Now it just sitting there it hasn't been touched.

I got the "your medical board has been accepted by the PEB" message a day after you on 30 Dec and mine still says that it is under review on EBenefits. I know that when it says pending decision approval they have reached a decision and are waiting for ratings to come back but it seems pretty early to expect that. Maybe your case was an easy determination for them though. I found the following on the EBenefits site which may be able to answer your question some;

Claims Process
There are eight distinct steps that most claims for disability compensation follow. These phases may vary in time depending on the complexity of the claim, the amount of evidence that must be gathered to support the claims, and the type of evidence. You are strongly encouraged to submit as much evidence as possible with your claim to help minimize processing time. The eight steps of claims processing are as follows:

Step 1. Claim Received
Your claim has been received by the VA. If you applied online with VONAPP Direct Connect, you should see receipt in your list of Open Claims within one hour. If you applied through the U.S. mail, please allow mailing time plus one week for us to process and record receipt of your claim.

Step 2. Under Review
Your claim has been assigned to a Veterans Service Representative and is being reviewed to determine if additional evidence is needed. If we do not need any additional information, your claim will move directly to the Preparation for Decision phase.

Step 3. Gathering of Evidence
The Veterans Service Representative will request evidence from the required sources. Requests for evidence may be made of you, a medical professional, a government agency, or another authority. It is common for claims to return to this phase, should additional evidence be required.

Step 4. Review of Evidence
We have received all needed evidence. If, upon review, it is determined that more evidence is required, the claim will be sent back to the Gathering of Evidence phase.

Step 5. Preparation for Decision
The Veterans Service Representative has recommended a decision, and is preparing required documents detailing that decision. If more evidence is required, the claim will be sent back in the process for more information or evidence.

Step 6. Pending Decision Approval
The recommended decision is reviewed, and a final award approval is made. If it is determined that more evidence or information is required, the claim will be sent back in the process for more information or evidence.

Step7. Preparation for Notification
Your entire claim decision packet is prepared for mailing.

Step 8. Complete
The VA has sent a decision packet to you by U.S. mail. The packet includes details of the decision or award. Please allow standard mailing time for your packet to arrive before contacting a VA call center.

Hey all, I have similar timelines as well. Case received on 14 Dec, still waiting for fit/unfit. However, my ebenfits says pending decision approval and as of Tuesday had an estimated completion date of the claim. It's a 90 day window between late Feb and early May. Anyone have any experiences with this or know if that means anything at all regarding a fit/unfit decision? Thanks!
 
I finally found out I was unfit on 12 Jan. Waiting on ratings.
 
Well I was found unfit 1st of January. I'm in QA status. I was told QA means the VA has my paperwork. Bad news is that the peblo looked it up and I am QA status Pre VA. So my package has not even hit the VA 2 weeks after being found unfit from what I'm told. Looks like it takes 3 months after being found unfit to get findings. Very dissapointed but not complaining
