Greeting all,

This is for Army if this happens to differ for services. From my understanding you get 30(?) days from the time you sign your 199 to transition out the military. Does this 'transition' mean complete or have started to out-process/clear and final out within those 30 days of transitioning? This does not include transition leave or PTDY. I know I have to request an exemption because I'll have over 90 days of transition leave/PTDY.

And how many days from notification of 199 do I have to sign?

Thanks.

So the Army is going to give you 90 days from the date you sign your DA199 (and concur) to out-process and clear. That 90 days includes PTDY and any leave you have saved. I think what happens is, you get your orders with a NLT than date (90 days) and from there you work backwards and figure out what day your terminal leave will start based on how much leave you have. I believe that in order to use leave that exceeds 90 days, it takes an 0-6 signature. Anything under 90 days is good to go.

If your 199 is correct just go ahead and sign it. Though I believe its 5 days is the amount of days you have to sign the DA199 The backend stuff happens after that. Once you get your retirement orders and NLT date you can then send in a DA4187 to change the date of the NLT. Your PEBLO can give you the form and the format it needs to be. The other box is check above this.

Now that you mentioned this, it's similar to what an RSO told me a few months ago. Thanks!

Your are welcome. I am not sure if correct on the time. Its either 5 days or 7 as time allotted to sign. It was 10 but changed shortly before my wife was put into IDES.

Just remember you need to account for leave, leave accrued while using terminal leave, and PTDY Leave granted at 20 days though your commander isn't required to approve the PTDY leave.
