Understanding what creates DoD%

Good morning so I had seen my case was closed by VA and my VA rep on base let me know that I have a purposed rating of 100% P&T. The question I have is the percentage for my referred condition of back which is only 20% going to be my DoD %. I know my PEBLO did say I can argue this percentage with the office of lawyers we have for that certain type of work. Looking for suggestions and understanding on this process. I am happy about the VA % but wanting to make sure I can hit that retirement instead of severance. Thank you for any insight.

Typically, the DOD% matches whatever the VA rates that one condition (or more if you have multiple referred conditions). So if you're anticipating receiving 20% VA rating for your back based on your ROM on your DBQ, then thats generally what the DOD% will be as well.

I have heard that if you have radiculopathy mentioned on your back DBQ, then those percentages may possibly be added to your DOD%.

Get an attorney and go to the Formal PEB.

OK, so they don’t add those percentages up that are all linked to the back. Also, how good is the lawyers that I was told about I could use through some special office within the Air Force who specifically deals with the formal PEB?

Here is the DBQ for my back and the doctor's diagnosis.

Office of Airmen Counsel
Located at AFPC/Randolph AFB

Call them and explain that your secondary conditions were not included in your single unfit condition. They will know that drill.

Ok I will find that number and give them a call. I have not received my DoD ratings yet. I only was told my VA ratings from my VA rep but still no DoD. Could it still come back with more or will it most likely just be that 20%. I just learned today that i could have added other conditions to my original MEB but I did not know that so I am guessing that's what will happen and go to a formal PEB.

Wanted to thank everyone for their help just got the information back that I am at 40% DoD and 100% P&T VA. In block 11 of DAF 356 it says recommendation Permanent retirement does that mean anything other than being eligible for Tricare and still having base access? Also, so happy to hear that the VA was what it was as well.

Just means it won't change. You got PDRL. If it says Temporary which is TDRL then your rating could change in the future. You are locked in and will get your chapter 61 retirement along with all of its benefits:)

What are all of those benefits I feel like I see some but then see contradicting information as well.

If youre less than 20 YOS then only thing you dont get is CRDP. Beyond that its full retirement benefits including TRICARE; in itself its worth its weight in gold despite having 100% VA.

That is what I have heard about being able to hold on to TRICARE after leaving the military.

So how long after the forms are signed and submitted does it take for the orders to be cut for outprocessing.
