Hello my name is Jake, i am 21 years old. I first noticed back and knee problems in september of 2007. I was diagnosed with a herniated disc in my lower back and chrondomalacia in both my knees. This all happened in Air Force training. I have had this for about 10 months now and it seems that i have tried everything concerning doctors and medication. No results with both. I have also been on profile for the same amount of time. I have heard that if youve been on a profile for 12 months they MUST sumbit MEB. Right now i am working with patient advocate in the flight clinic, since i cannot even get an appointment to see the doctors anymore. I dont know where all of this is gonna go, so i was looking for some insight so i wont be surprised. I am in alot of pain and i know i cannot continue a life in the military.

I'm sure they will have to do a LOD determination. Being that you have only been in for 10 months? Do you have medical records of injury/trama from (in) basic?

Hey,

I also have a herniated disc and they've tried everything so far but surgery. I am 20 years old and do not want to be under the knife at this age.

let me know what happens with you though so i know what to expect

they are saying a possible MEB pretty son

i had my surgery 1 1/2 ago for herniated disc for L4-L5 L5-S1. surgery didnt help much. Acutally got worse with new pains that developed. Got 10% with severance pay from informal for DDD. Denied that and now going to formal. My formal is next monday which my lawyer is going for 40% retirement. All I can say is get your make sure its LOD and do your homework. Setup as many appoinments as you can so it gets documented. Get 2nd opinions from civilian DR too because you have the right. The only thing they rate you on is Range of motion and how many episodes you had that required you to get bed rest... from DR documented in your medical records. if you havent already look at the VARSD for ratings. good luck
no info on the knees... sorry

Ya i told my ortho that im to young for surgery. I'm going to wait and see what happens over time. If need be i will end up getting surgery but not until technology gets better in regards to injuries to the back. I just did my range of motion today with physical therapy. I guess all im waitin for is for my PA to finish writing up the summary of what all has gone on since the beginning of all of this. He said im going to have to review it before he submits it.

I heard that are two ways to approach this. One the USAF quotes you on the range of motion. The other is a rating through the VA. Which should i go through. I havnt got my rating back yet. Should I pursue the AF rating or should i just go to the VA once i get the rating from the AF.
