Does anyone know how long it typically takes the VA to process a rating reconsideration and give a new rating? The VA attorney will submit my package today and was estimating roughly 3 weeks.

Has anyone gone through this process recently?

Sorry, just saw this. I'm in the IDES process now. I'm Air Guard (O-5) with over 31 years of service and a dual-status technician. I've been 100% P&T VA since 2019. I redid my mental health portion because I was told that's the easier way to go. Fast forward three years, and I'm in the IDES route now. My mental Health C&P was on 29 Dec 2025. My last C&P (Gen Med) was 13 Jan 2026. I received my VA results (they continued me at 50%) 19 March 2026, so roughly 2 months from my last C&P exam.

For context, I'm appealing the 50% on the IPEB to the VA for 70%- the ODC lawyer says he's gotten people from 50-70% on mental health with less paperwork than what I have. I feel confident and this part of the process has been moving fairly well.

This question is actually more complex than you may think- the answer is partly dependent on your branch of service and partly on the complexity of the request. VA Reconsideration Requests ("VARRs") for Army personnel (AD, Guard, and Reserve) are processed through the VA Rating Activity at SeaTac and tend to take between 2 and 6 weeks, unless the VARR is regarding a complex or little-understood condition- i.e., obscure autoimmune disorders, hematological disorders, and cancer diagnoses- and there is a question as to whether it is in an active disease process or not. VARRs for the Air Force (AD, Air Guard and Reserve), Navy (AD Navy & USMC, as well as their reserve components), and Coast Guard (AD and Reserve) are processed through the VA Rating Activity at Providence and can take between 4 and 8 weeks on average, with the same caveat regarding the codtions listed above and whether the condtion under review is in active disease process or not.
