19 Sept PEB found unfit for duty
Ratings complete on 7 February 14

I Had 1 condition that was unfitting. I didn't want to end my career in the USAF after only 5 years, but I think It would be foolish to fight such a favorable ruling.

Nice, found unfit on the exact same day. Haven't heard a darn thing since..

Congrats on the receipt of your finding and even more so on them being amicable to you. As you prepare for your life after the service, do not loose faith in that even at 5 years, you provided for this countries needs, rather a front line troop, a logistics clerk, a tool crib monitor, medical technician etc. You did what you could for your nation and here is to the hope that the government will live up to its end of the deal and take care of those of us who all voluntarily sacrificed in some way, rather it was to go to school or to get out of moms basement, rather for love of country or just a means to an end to get a jump start on life, you did your part, you served.

Just wanted to update for anyone wondering how long it takes for your EAS to post. My EAS updated, April 29 2014 will be my last day as a Marine after 12+ years. Never thought I would be PCS'n to 1st Civ Div but it's finally about to happen. This process has been very stressful and if it wasn't for this site I don't know what I would have done. Thank you to everyone who contributes to this site, I will continue to be a contributing member forever as this site has helped me tremendously. I'll update more until my final payments have been received for others to guage on their timelines, thank you.

Frank congrats buddy and I wish you an your family well it has been a long process for you and I'm glad there is now a defined end for you.

Now my PEBLO has not called me yet or informed me of my findings, which is pretty depressing considering it seemed the turn around for everyone else is about a week after the VA finished up, but with the snow storms and other stuff happening I guess there might be a built in excuse. Either way I am getting fed up with this but at least I know once I get my findings and sign them its about another three weeks or so I'll get an EAS. I really can't wait any longer and I hope they get it them back soon so I hit the end of April and not the end of May or worse.

In other great news, my back doctor told me that I might need surgery depending on what my MRI says, I will not however get it until I am out, I just can't take any more of this shit. Hopefully I hear back from the PEB soon and can get my paper signed and I'm out the door!!!

Congrats Frank I am happy for you and your family you earned this buddy. Keep on keepin on, I am glad that you have a defined end now.

I am still waiting on my PEBLO to get back to me on my findings, its very depressing that it has been over three weeks since the VA finished up and the turn around for everyone else seems to be a week, but hey I can't win them all.

To that extent, enjoy your forthcoming military disability retirement and all post-military endeavors! :D

If anyone was waiting for the finding to come back my PEBLO just informed me that because of the VA backlog and them trying to fix it they have been sending the PEB a ton of VA findings all at once. So that means the PEB is now getting a ton of these claims at once and will be completing them all together then sending them out all together. So in my PEBLO's case he was told that instead of getting one or two trickling in they will be getting like 4-5 together the same day. So this will cause some what of a backlog through them and at the PEB so guys buckle up because its still could be a little while longer. I would assume that then the next step will also be a little backlogged and so on and so forth

So it seems I am about a month behind some you, I was found unfit in earlynovember, and the VA recieved my package 7 NOV, I am currently waiting on a call back from Peggy, I recieved an email inquiry response earlier this week that said I was in the "predetermination process". I've never heard of that term, so I figured I would give them a call to clarify and ensure I was marked as an IDES case. I am hoping that I am on the same track as some of you and that I will have my initial ratings in the next week or 2.

Also anyone who would like to get a jump start on their next step in life and is thinking about going to college I have some information that might help you out and while you are waiting maybe complete a few classes.

So first once you have been entered into the IDES process you are now eligible for Vocational Rehab through the VA. You can contact the Vocational Rehab rep that is at your nearest base and they should be aware of how this works. In my case I applied to school and applied to Vocational Rehab at the same time. Once I got my letter of acceptance I gave it to my Voc Rehab rep and the ball started rolling. They will ask you questions like what are your disabilities that you are claiming and what effect do they have on you in regards to your plan in life. So if you were planning on making a career out of the military and now because of a knee or back injury you tell them I wanted to be in the military but because of my conditions I am now not able to accomplish my goals. That will get you approved.

Then you can go to your schools VA rep, or call or e-mail them and you can start to get the paper work filled out on that side of things. From there they will set up an account the school store for your books and supplies. When I say supplies it can be anything from note books, pens, flash drives, etc. You can also apply for a computer and a printer if you do not already have one, that is what I did and that is what I am typing to you on right now.

The benefit of using voc rehab is you do not have to accomplish your goal in the 36 month time period that the Post 9/11 GI has set. You can go to night classes and get it done longer and the VA still pays your FULL costs of college. The idea is to not have the veteran pay a dollar for this education. Now a rule that the put in around 2011 allows veterans using Voc Rehab to also get the BAH the school they in. Of course you can't get this BAH until you get out of the military because you already get a check from the government. So in my case the BAH of the school I am going to is $2500 a month but my current BAH is only $1300, so because my bases BAH is $1300 I can only get that BAH until I get out. Once I get EAS'd I will then be able to collect the $2500 a month instead of my other BAH. So as of right now I take three classes, two online (completely paid for) and one at the school at night (also paid for in full). They allowed me to buy all my books and supplies for free and also I got a new laptop and printer.

So if you have a while and this is your goal and plan to attend college take advantage of this as soon as you can. It has helped me knowing that even though I feel I am wasting my life away on active duty, I am also getting an education. If you have any questions I will try to help you out and understand better and how the process works. This process sucks but at least take advantage of the benefits of it while you can.

I had high hopes when everyone's status went from "preparation for decision" to "pending desion approval" in one week. But mine have been in "preparation for decision" for two weeks now. That little glimpse of hope I had just whooshed away... now I'm back to being clueless. So not kool.

Locke like I said before my PEBLO told me that because of the backlog at the VA being fixed there are now a ton of cases hitting the PEB all at the same time which has now created a backlog there as well, it should not be much longer, I have now been waiting for almost three weeks, it just seems if they fix one problem it only creates another. But the good thing is once the PEB has it they want us out as fast as they can because we are a waste of their budget, so stick in there it should be done soon hopefully.

Good info DaPats, fortunately I was able to complete my degree while I was in. The other Marine in my shop just got his findings back so hopefully yours will be any day now. Just be prepared to get the hell out quick, because HQMC only gave me enough days to check out and do DMO without wasting my leave. Actually with my 20 days PTAD I still had to sell 9 days of leave back. They aren't going to let you take a lot of terminal so be prepared for that. Start checking out NOW! The more you can do now the less headache you will have in the upcoming weeks, good luck.

Thanks Frank for the info and I can't wait for the day they "make me get out' haha its been a while and I would love to be told I need to leave and start to check out. I have no gear basically I have nothing I just need my signatures and I'll be out the door quick, as soon as I get my findings back I will be getting my check out sheet and completing the rest. MY TAPS classes are done its just a waiting for the best call of my life to come in

So I learned that the VA adds 10 days to the day that they actually received their packages, so the date i had for time is incorrect and I will wait longer to get ratings! So since i been screw over so much during this process if they give me back a low rating I will fight until I get my desired result. I waited long enough and am now prepared to wait longer.

Thank you TSgt for this well timed message. You are a much needed source of information and inspiration on this board. You've inspired me to share my PEB experience to the "next guy up"!

Welcome to the PEB Forum! :)

Indeed, congratulations on your recent notification of DoD and DoVA proposed ratings!

From the regulatory requirements within the DoD IDES MEB/PEB process via an U.S. Army perspective, once a military service member becomes eligible for disability benefits, the severity of their condition will determine whether the military service member receive disability retirement or are separated with severance pay.
  • Military service members rated with a 0%, 10% or 20% disability who have less than 20 years of active service or 7,200 points of combined service, shall be separated with severance pay.
  • Military service members at 30% or more, or who have 20 or more years of active military service or 7,200 points of combined service, receive disability retirement.
To that extent, disability retirement is either temporary or permanent depending on the stability of the military service member's medical condition.

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer."

Best Wishes!

Indeed, that's the spirit at least from my experiences within the DoD IDES MEB/PEB process for sure! ;)

Nonetheless, never ever default acceptance to potential injustice while championing for well-earned and well-deserve military healthcare benefits now and after military separation/ retirement!

To that extent, remain positively proactive and stay on course throughout all interactions in the DoD IDES MEB/PEB process while trying to secure the best solution for yourself and your loved ones!

As the historical statement goes..."you only have one LIFE to live"...and it's best to maximize all healthcare benefits opportunities while still capable to do so!

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer."

This process if really wearing me thin, I would really appreciate some advice or words of encouragement, as it would really help me.

My proposed ratings have been complete since Feb 11, and were sent to PEB Feb 12th.

I have yet to sign my DA 199.

I called the PEB office in Washington DC earlier this week and the lady behind the phone said " My PEBLO should be calling me soon".

I talked to my PEBLO yesterday and he said usually the PEB has it for 2 weeks and then sends it to the command., but he has not seen the ratings yet.

Does this sound right? Am I just being impatient?

From what I've read on these boards is people generally sign their 199 days after the VA finishes the ratings...

Thanks
