Wait Time For Providence, RI

That seems about right, from what my peblo told me it takes about 2 weeks to get your order after signing your "election of options form" and then you get approximately 20 days to outprocess. So if you sign by the 1st you should have orders around the 15 and be outprocessed by the second week of May, but your final day on active duty(after all you leave) has to be within the last 3 days of the month, the Air Force likes the 28th for some reason. So if you have 30 days of leave and your last day is june 28th, then your terminal leave will begin at the end of May.

Well I only have 12 days of leave but Master Chief said I get 20 days for house/job hunting. So yeah like a month. I'm just confused because that would mean I can't leave here til the end of April at best. End of May at worst. I want to get my ratings and check out like I have seen several people here do. Guess I'll have to lower my expectations yet again. This is the worst process in the history of processes.

meg i understand your frustration...

i am coming up on the end of week 2 for my retirement orders...

we are so close but i, just like you, am very anxious to move on and start a new chapter in life.

glad to hear you are expecting your ratings next week, that's good news; good luck.

out processing will take at least 5 days AFTER you get orders, even if you had a month or more of leave., some folks who get zero'd or less than 30 can get out a little bit faster since they are being sep'd not retired etc., but built into the process is 20 days for processing, 20 days permissive (only if retireing if sep useally not approved), and then there is the end of the month thing from DoD, which is to put you out within 3 days of the end of the month so there is no(less of)gap in pay between separation and retirement pay start. even doing everything as fast as i can, it still has taken me the better part of a week or so to get everything done.

So does this mean I'm getting retired? Is that why it takes longer? I have no idea what my ratings are.

Meg you will not know whether or not you have been medically retired until you see your proposed ratings.

If your DOD ratings are 30% or higher, you've been medically retired.

p.s. If you had a DAV you would already have known your proposed ratings; that's one of the benefits of having the DAV on your side. :p

Yeah I know but I never bothered with it because it just seemed like a hassle. And one of the PEBLO's here has actually been pretty helpful. He gave me whatever dates I asked for. I'm trying to be patient. I really am. I think the not knowing part is what gets me most. Waiting might not be so bad if I knew the exact dates that everything will happen. Hopefully I'll know next week and then I can just calm down and breathe lol.

Please do not think I meant anything by my estimates, I was just showing the timeline. even if sep or retired etc., the dates do not line up for you to be out by 1 may. You technically "request" your sep/retirement date within the 30-90 day range, you could request sooner than 30 days, but it requires a waiver from higher HQ, which to my knowledge they do not approve/deny unless you all ready have orders, and then it takes a week, which to be out by the 28-30 apr. would only leave you a week to out process, it could be done, but you'd put yourself through hell to do it.

No I don't want to do that. I have a month between leave and house/job hunting. I just want to be done working by the end of April so I can go home. So I need the Navy to release me by the end of May. That's what I'm hoping anyway.

Well the process is seemily over for me. I just got my new EAS and retirement date of May 30. They are figuring out my terminal leave and such and working on getting me out. I still ahve to do a finally physical and all that which I find amusing only becasue the last year and half was one giant final physicaly but what ever. Anyway thank you very much for your support and insight throughout all of this. there is no way I would not have gone crazy without all of you guys. If i learn anything new I will psot on here still and thanks again guys and good luck to everyone in their processes and also their new chapter of life.

Well hot damn, it's been a pleasure DaPats. Glad to hear you r well on your way. Take care of yourself, and thank you for your contributions to the message board.

Yea they say it takes about 30 days so you are close. I've been in Pending Decision Approval since the 25th of March.

Yeah I know. But PEBLO told me that the PEB has had my VA ratings since the 25th. Does it really take over a week to type up a form? It's getting silly.

Atleast yours moved to that point. Mine has stayed at Preperation for desicion for almost 2 weeks now. I know you cant just go by ebennies, but it is nice to see it move. It just seems like my whole process is taking longer than the average, the VA has had my package for 147 days now. I need them to get moving, I want to move on with my life already!

Yea Bunt I think you and I are close together on this. But the VA has only had mine 111 days and I'm at Pending Approval. Maybe your case is more complex..

Have u called the VA? Everybody hates on their call system, but they were very helpful to me. They can tell you if it has already been approved and just wasnt updated in ebenefits.

The call system is awesome IMO..just call 1-800-827-1000 then press 1, then 0, then 1. If you get the female prompt, hang up and call again until you get the mail prompt asking call back. Follow directions and then 1/2 hour or less they call back...everytime..BUT..with anything, you will not always get a "knowledgable" answer. So it make take calling a couple of times throughout the days until you get a "sensible" answer.

I hope its because its more complex, maybe that will mean a higher rating in the end! Thanks everyone, I am now waiting on my VA call back!

I just got off the phone with the VA, and they still have nothing. She did state that is appears as though they are almost done, although I wont be holding my breath. I will continue to check ebennies and call my peblo in between my job searches!
