I'm assuming you are reserve/guard (drill)? AKAIK, you still have to be present for duty until:
1. You are placed on TDRL/PDRL
2. You receive severance orders

You would likely still have to attend, but you could possibly have limitations on what your duties would be based off of a profile from your doctor.

I am active duty, but I since I have been in the MEB/PEB status, I was non-deployable and was unable to attend unit field training, etc. But this was all based off of a profile and to some extent, my BN CDR made it very clear to my CO that my priority and number one duty was to attend medical appointments and get the medical care I needed and all of my previous duties and responsibilities were removed. I no longer receive an OER as it was my choice if I wanted to be rated this period. Some commands are more understanding than others and I just happened to get lucky in some areas.
Each chain of command is different. I have been in three companies over the past year and a half and each company treated me different. Luckily, on rear detachment, my commander is the commander I had when my medical issues began and she has been very supportive of my situation. I wish all commands treated those in this process the same but that is unfortunately not the case. I wish your command was more helpful, but if you are being treated poorly and negatively just because you are in an MEB/PEB process, you should voice your concerns through your chain of command and if that doesn't help, you always have your OMBUDSMAN and the IG if a complaint is warranted. I also have a case manager besides my PEBLO who regularly briefs my unit on my status and with her help, I am rarely asked for an update as my command is briefed weekly on those of us undergoing and MEB.
No problem. Just want to share my experience and hopefully some of the information can be used to your or someone else reading the forum. I think if my unit wasn't deployed, I would have more issues dealing with the chain of command but luckily my command is very good to me and understands I was found unfit and treating me as if I was in the WTU. This is mostly due to the fact that my doctors all expressed that I should have been placed in the WTU upon return from OIF, in fact, I should have been sent home early after my injury, but thats a long story. Bottom line is my doctors agreed that is where I should be and my commander confirmed, however, once in the MEB and found unfit, there really isn't a way to be moved. Plus I think I would be worse off in the WTU as they have more accountability requirements and I think I would get annoyed of being babysat as a CW3. I am happy to be on rear detachment with the primary duty of just keeping in touch with my unit and letting them know I am alive and present if needed. I wish you the best of luck.
I understand...... I have a saying I use at times "Illegitimi non carborundum", means don't let the bastards get you down. The 11 boo hoo unit I'm assigned to told the TAG that I was a malinger and just working the system. Funny thing he knows me.... after he dressed them down he told them I'm being promoted prior to my retirement and that the PEB rated me @ 90% disability DOD. Keep your dignity and honor intact (take the high ground, better shooting postions). Have your profile in hand, smile and know that karma's a bitch....... Are you on title 10?
If your not title 10 or AGR then you must be a drilling Reservist or National Guard Soldier. It's a tough to fly with eagles if your stuck with turkey's (especially if their leadership). By drilling you are making retirement points and some money. I know it's hard but the best thing you can do for yourself right now is always be at the proper place in the proper uniform at the proper time. You also MUST CARRY YOUR PROFILE..... if it's out of date or isn't correct, get it fixed. That will limit some of the BULL CRAP. Present yourself as a professional... your not broken or defeated unless you submit.
In my case I may be disoriented and confused but I survived the enemy and didn't lose my honor or dignity. I'll be damned if I'm going to give it up now....... I'm worth more than that and so are you.
As a drilling reservist or NG member you would want to continue drilling until you get your results (within in the limits of your profile). There reserves and the NG is a funny place, there would be nothing worse then you stop drilling and next thing you know you are being separated as a non participant with a other then honorable discharge, this would have a major impact on your VA benefits.
although if you have reapplied for and increase in your VA benefits and the VA offers you 100% due to individual unemployability i suggest you seek more guidance at that time. i do not think this will pertain to you at this time.
thanks, I have had doctors excuses and have not received any U's so far, but you guys are right. I need too, "suck it up and go on," even though I can't stand being around any thing military. It upsets me very much, but today I finished up the last phone consult and I hope it will go faster. I have already have 50% from VA for the same thing that I am getting MEB/PEB from June 2011. I hope that will make the process faster, because nothing has changed. does anyone knows how long it will take now after the last consult?
MP00- I have heard of a command allowing a soldier to not attend drill. I am not sure how this works but if I think that the CO was ok with it and checked with the State Surgeon who had final authority on it. The rest of the details I do not know but you may want to look into this to see if this is correct info. Worth a try.
MP00-I live over 2 hours from my reserve unit. I was financially, physically, and mentally unable to continue drilling. My command gave me a very hard time over this. I finally had to go thru IG. After talking to IG, sending them evidence of my issues/restrictions, IG spoke with my command team, and it was decided that I didn't need to be at the unit. I haven't attended drills since April 2011, and the command is no longer harassing me, after having the talk with IG. The unit is now supportive, and understanding. All worked out in the end...Thankfully.
Thanks for all the info you guys have given me. I had my therapist write a letter to the commander so she can understand my situation and how it effects my ability to function, when I get triggered which it doesn't take much being in a MP unit. I will be giving it to here next drill. I hope it will not be a mistake and come back and bite me in the butt. I just want them too understand and leave me along until I finish with my MEB/PEB process. Also, does anyone knows how long it takes after the last phone consult until it is written up as the Narsum?
Time frame for the NARSUM write up depends and is different on every post. Fort Sam Houston only has 2 Mental Health Docs, so it took a few days over a month for my MH NARSUM to be wrote up, but yet it only took 2 week for my Physical Health NARSUM to be wrote up. Be patient, most have a pretty heavy case load right now.
