What all do they look for in the blood tests at MEPS? I have been recently diagnosed with Hemophilia and I know for sure that it did not exist prior to joining the military. Is Hemophilia something they test for? The one I am concerned about is Hemophilia A Factor VIII. Right now I am on a roll doing some research and found that certain factors in my job can cause a person to develop this disease... It is a common misconception that it is ONLY a hereditary disease...
Better Pay for Combat-Related Disabilities? Tom Philpott | August 23, 2007 Bush Backs Separate Combat-Related Disability System The Bush administration is preparing a legislative proposal to present to Congress in September that would establish a separate and, under most circumstances, a more generous disability package for service members who are injured in war or while training for war, sources said. Under the plan, recommended by the Dole-Shalala commission, service members found unfit for duty as a result of combat or combat-training injuries, regardless of the number of years served, would qualify for an immediate lifetime annuity from the Department of Defense. Annuity amounts would be based on the formula used to calculate...
Below is a quick brief of what I have going on. My biggest concern is a dash dash dash rating. My Narsum has just been dictated and I have yet to sign it. I am a Soldier with the 10th Mountain Division for 6 years. I have made it to the rank of E-5 Promotable and held a position of that of an E-7 for the past 2 years. My PEB packet also has a Line of Duty that states degenerative Joint Disease. I don't know what other info you might need but I would like to know what I am up against. THnak you for your help. Here is basicly my med history. MED HISTORY 12 JUN 01— Seen at Charlotte NC MEPS and evaluated by 2 surgeons for right knee condition and stability. 22 JUN 01— Waiver for right knee granted. With a P2 given at entrance...
Hey guys, I've been through the whole process and got my med discharge, got through the VA claims process with a surprising amount of ease. My situation was straightforward: I was hit by a car overseas and knew I wouldn't be able to do my job or meet physical standards. However, my shipmate wants to know the difference between getting a medical discharge and just finishing out his enlistment. He has a back problem that's causing him to consider the med board route. One example of the difference is the discharge code (is that the right term?) where if he got a med discharge he may be eligible to NOT be recalled to active service. I know the Navy benefits are not very attractive compared to the VA, my monthly VA check is non-taxable...
AR 635-40, para 3-2, states, "Presumptions The following presumptions will apply to physical disability evaluation: a. Before and during active service. (1) A Soldier was in sound physical and mental condition upon entering active service except for physical disabilities noted and recorded at the time of entry. (2) Any disease or injury discovered after a Soldier entered active service, with the exception of congenital and hereditary conditions, was not due to the Soldier’s intentional misconduct or willful neglect and was incurred in line of duty (LD). (3) If the foregoing presumptions are overcome by a preponderance of the evidence, any additional disability or death resulting from the preexisting injury or disease was caused by...

http://www.dfas.mil/retiredpay/retiredpaycap.html Notice that disability retired pay is still capped at 75%. This should not change any decisions for Chapter 61 retirees over twenty years of service as they still get the better of the two amounts (retired rating percentage of pay vs Length of Service percentage of pay). It applies to retirees who retired after December 31, 2006. Here is the text of the law: SEC. 642. INAPPLICABILITY OF RETIRED PAY MULTIPLIER MAXIMUM PERCENTAGE TO CERTAIN SERVICE OF MEMBERS OF THE ARMED FORCES IN EXCESS OF 30 YEARS. (a) In General.--Paragraph (3) of section 1409(b) of title 10, United States Code, is amended to read as follows: ``(3) 30 years of service.-- ``(A) Retirement before january 1...
Folks, When we start talking about MEB/PEB about various injuries we seem to always overlook one huge thing and it is critical that it is attended to. When you receive an injury that is from some form of violence, you could very well develop some level of PTSD. Here's a link to information about PTSD. www.webmd.com/anxiety-panic/understanding-posttraumatic-stress-disorder-symptoms It is very difficult for us to admit to ourselves that there may just be something psychologically wrong with us and society doesn't help. But, you need to seek help. Another issue is when we come to the realization that we cannot do the things we used to be able to do due to illness or injury. This is one I have a whole lot of experience...
Here are two sample memos, one for COAD and the other for COAR. Chapter 6, AR 635-40 covers this topic in detail. The eligibility criteria for continuation in either component is covered in paragraph 2 of both memos. Basically, it is more than 15, less than 20 yrs of service, or qualification in a shortage MOS, or disability as a result of combat or act of terrorism.
Help Hello, I'm a 26 year old female that has been having chronic ab pain since Aug 2005, I've been thru the tricare referral process and the off base specialist stated I needed a "Gastric Pacemaker" and has the test, lab results etc to prove this... So now, I found out that the base "SGH" denied the procedure stating that it is still "experimental" and that it cost to much for tricare he then informed me that he us going to start a MEB on me to have me medically discharged. Help, I've been in the Air Force for 8 years and 3 months, and just reenlisted for 5 more years. I want to feel better, currently I'm given Vicodin, Hydrocodne, etc for pain but nothing to fix me, if they say I'm unfit fine, but I want to be retired not just...
The JAG Corps has recently mobilized 18 Reserve attorneys and paralegals to augment the Soldiers' Counsel at the PEB. This should have a large impact. Historically, the Soldiers' Counsel at the PEB were typically drawn from the Legal Assistance Office of the servicing Office of the Staff Judge Advocate. In my opinion, in the past there were many problems with the administration of providing legal advice. For example, at Fort Sam Houston, there are NO permanent paragraph and line number positions on the Table of Distribution and Allowances (TDA). That means the attorneys filling the job had to be "borrowed" from another position or else were mobilized reservists. Prior to the scandal at Walter Reed, few Judge Advocates even knew about...
