IDES referred conditions

Hello,

So I just have started my med board process, and today I talked to my VA representative to add claims. He told me that my referred condition is “low back pain” only. I want to add peripheral neuropathy such as sciatica or radiculopathy into my referred conditions. I’ve talked to my Peblo about this but he said after I am done with my exams, the Air Force is going to decide whether it is related with my lower back pain. But I want to add it now so that I can be properly evaluated for my referred conditions. What should I do? Do I have to contact my PCM? And I also read a post that people are recommending to hire a private lawyer for the process, do you know much they charge? And any recommendations for med board lawyers?

Thank you.

I will send you attorney stuff via direct message. So you get to add all claims with the VA MSC for VA compensation. However, the AF is saying they are only considering the lower back pain as unfitting. To get the other conditions added it will have to be at the FPEB but there is a lot you can do in the process to build your case up until you get to that point in the process.

Can I ask my PCM to add radiculopathy as my referred conditions?
You can try but typically if it isn't referred at the same time it doesn't get added later on without appealing.

Hey! New here. Good information. I'm currently going through an MEB. Awaiting on my C&P exam scheduling.
Can you share the pros and cons of having 1 or more referred conditions? I was only referred for one condition but felt like I should have had others referred and added to my P3 profile. Doesn't the MEB/PEB decide what is FITTING and UNFITTING regardless of what conditions were referred that actually triggered the MEB referral? Any info will be appreciated. Thanks!

They typically find the referred condition unfitting and all others fitting. Its rare if they add any additional conditions. If that were to happen you would see it at the NARSUM stage and if the NARSUM writer had more conditions listed as unfitting than just the referred condition than there is a good chance the iPEB would concur with the NARSUM.

I'd like to add that i dont think its necessary to add the conditions to the referred condition after the MEB has started. I was referred for one condition, but after all the exams the MEB automatically made determinations if any of the other conditions in the exams were related to the referred condition. I was eventually chaptered out on the referred condition and 2 other cosnditions that were linked to the referred condition.

They were asking because adding more conditions can get you a higher total DOD% which leads to a higher monthly chapter 61 pension amount.
