Fort Lewis PEB

I enjoy helping where I can, especially when I know the answers to give.
Hello Sascha,
I have a question for you for the civilian contractors that deal with the TDRL are they suppose to send us to a civilian doctor or are we suppose to go to the VA or an MTF. My other question is if you know what is the time line that TDRL Re-evaluations looking at to get a PEB decision.

Sascha, you seem to have a wealth of knowledge and I am sure everyone appreciates your advice. I have one. I opened EBENEFITS the other day and it say gathering information. I called my MSC and she told me do not worry about it cause its something they do to finalize the claim. I got in the mail from VA my proposed ratings and was told that it went to the PEB on 1 OCT 2012. My peblo stills has not received my 199. I do not have very much leave available. What will my timeline be once I get my 199 if I was to take all 10 days to review it. What would my timeline look like after I sign it.

Thanks

So you haven't even seen your informal 199? After that it goes back to PEB and then the formal 199 is presented. After you sign that, again it goes back and then your stuff will goe to the PDA for final review and when they are done you will come down for orders. Rough guess...about another month or so, maybe less.

OK thanks, yes they have not let me review the 199 yet. So that will be a temporary one. When I get it, I have 10 days to review correct? So once I agree, they will give me a formal 199. I also think the holidays may slow things down too correct?

Thanks

Have you recieved your Fit/Unfit memo? If so, then you should be getting your informal 199 varily soon. yes you will have 10 days to decide on both counts, informal and formal. Also, you are correct, holidays will slow things down.

Check the proposed ratings and see if there are any outstanding issues. Also, remember e-benifits is worthless, but it should not show complete until you are a veteran. Officially your proposed ratings are just that, "proposed" for the IDES system (only). You still have an choice to ask for a one-time-reconcideration of the "proposed ratings" when you get your 199.

By law, the VA can not "complete" the packet until you are a Veteran (214 in hand, and off active duty).

Look at my posting in my signature on what happens after signing the 199... Also it usually takes the PEB 30 days to receive the packet from the VA after they send it back, a week to review, and then a week or so for the 199 to be written.

ALOT of soldiers are not getting their unfit/fit memos, I was one of them and I suggest to most PEBLOs that if they don't care about finding that out, the Soldier only needs to know this: If the VA has your packet, you were found unfit. Simple answer instead of the I don't know (which really means I don't care)... Yes, I'm poking at a dead horse, it's just many get left uninformed with people who care more about their coffee and paychecks. Yes I am very bitter with the experience, but glad I am done with all that crap.:)

Mrs. Roberson my last comment was in no way stating anything against you or your character, I know that you are a good PEBLO and try your best with what you do. You gave me info that no one else would when I was lost and still think about that day every time I think of the MEB office at Madigan. Thank you for your hard work, and I hope to see you continuing to help our fellow Soldiers.

Did your va propose ratings come back and awaiting your 199 or awaiting if your are fit or unfit

I never got an unfit notification or my proposed ratings, my ratings were completed and sent back from the VA in less than a 24 hour time frame. I can understand the fact of not getting the proposed ratings sent to me, because when I signed my 199 they would have come to me in the mail because it would have been wasted paper.
I am out of the Army now, the MEB/PEB start to finish was 17 months to the day of signing the 199 and 20 months from the beginning until I got out.

I hope my PEBLO calls me this week. I know my stuff is ready.

I understand your stuff took a total of 20 months, but I am hoping that doesn't happen with me. My stuff started July 24th, 2012 and it is with the VA for preparation for decision as of November 7th, 2012.

You most likely still have at least a month or so, mine has been at the va for 39 days now and they just proposed my ratings at seattle va

But I got my unfit memo from my PEBLO when it was forwarded to the va for ratings, I just asked my PEBLO if I could get the preliminary findings memo and she printed it off for me, I used that to clear CIF early. From what I've heard it all depends on your PEBLO, technically she wasn't supposed to give it to me till the 199 was complete but she is awesome and gave it to me early

How long does it take to get the 199 put together?

I'm still waiting..they just proposed my ratings on Friday, I've been told it takes 30 days for the 199

The va proposes ratings then sends them to the peb..the va ratings are not final until you are released from active duty and turn in your dd214 to the va. Once the peb receives them they process the army side and decide pdrl, tdrl, or severance
