BipolarII

For the past few years I have been seen for "general anxiety disorder." After having a mental breakdown I decided enough was enough and I finally took the time to write down everything that was going on and what my stresses were.
I presented this paper to my therapist and was then correctly diagnosed with BipolarII versus the GAD. She was very concerned for me, as are my peers and bosses. I'm just thankful that I have a correct diagnosis and can now be treated for it.

My therapist asked how I felt about being in the military (Army), and asked how long I had been in (8 yrs). After digging I'm finding out that the army will claim mental health issues after 8 years. I'm assuming she's ready to recommend me for a medboard so I'm trying to get my ducks in a row. She met with my psychiatrist after our therapy session and I have a follow up on Tuesday for a "behavioral health profile" (???) and medication modification.

How long after being diagnosed with bipolar does a MEB start?

Honestly, there’s no telling. Shouldn’t be too long. This was one of my diagnosis and I received 75% VA as it wasn’t the main cause for my MEB. I also had anxiety and depression. Be honest when you do your exams. Don’t try and down play it.

I'm wondering if I will even be rated well as I was JUST diagnosed. So there's only one appointment worth of "notes" so far.

It really depends on the severity of symptoms, your rate/MOS/AFSC, branch of service, and effect on your work. There are many people in the military with mental health diagnoses that continue to serve and serve well.
