Good morning team - thank you ahead of time for your help here. I've been back and forth a few times on the calculations for CRSC, and want to make sure I am understanding everything correctly. I acknowledge that I will be waiting between 90 - 180 days for an answer on my CRSC claim, but looking to better understand the calculations behind all of it.

My background information:

Medically retired Army Infantry Officer
Rank Upon Retirement: O-4
BASD: 08242009
Retirement Date: 09202022
YOS: 12 years, 3 months
VA Rating: 100% Permanent and Total

High-3: $7,247.37
NOTE: This may be off, it's complicated
I was promoted from O-3 to O-4 in June 2020
2020 - 6x months (10 YOS) @ O-3/6x months (10 YOS) @ O-4
2021 - 12x months @ O-4 - 8x months @ O-4 10 YOS + 4 months @ O-4 12 YOS
2022 - 12x months @ O-4 (12 YOS)

High-3xYOS: $2,174.10 (My calculations)
Rating from the Army: 40% (Permanent and Total)
Retirement percent based on 40%: $2,898.95
Retirement amount from DFAS: $3,153.00 (Makes me think my high-3 estimation is off)
100% VA with 2 dependents: $3,971.78
I currently receive $0 from my retirement, due to VA offset.

CRSC claim has been submitted and received by Army HRC, currently under review.
I submitted for my gunshot wound in 2011 - rated by the VA @ 30%, Anxiety/attachment disorder (PTSD), rated at 30%, and tinnitus, rated at 10%.
Claim included PH certificate, medical records, VA claim paperwork, CIB paperwork, and all administrative documents required.

I don't qualify for any other form of retirement.

Update on the High-3 information as seen above. I redid my math for the 12th time, and here is what I got.

High-3: $7,821.55
High-3xYOS: $2,395.35 (My calculations)
Rating from the Army: 40% (Permanent and Total)
Retirement percent based on 40%: $3,128.62
Retirement amount from DFAS: $3,153.00 (Makes me think my high-3 estimation is off)
100% VA with 2 dependents: $3,971.78
I currently receive $0 from my retirement, due to VA offset.

Hello ,

What is your active duty equivalent shown on your retirement orders as DISABILITY RETIREMENT 3/4 down on first page.

Your high three in current dollars is gross pay on DFAS RAS divided by 40% = high three
What is your gross pay?

Ron

Here's the info straight from MyPay:

Pay Item Description

Estimate.

1. 3153/40% = 7882 high three (current) comment: 3153 is 40% of an unknown number. (3153 is 40% of 7882).
2. 13.333 yrs x 2.5% = 33.33% longevity multiplier
3. 7882 x 33.33% = 2627 longevity portion of retired pay and one of the CRSC ceilings
4. VA comp amount: $3,971.78
5. Amount of waived retired pay = 3153
6. Your CRSC cannot be more than the longevity, 2627
7. It can be lower, depending on the approved CRSC percentage. That percentage should be viewed in the VA comp tables with the number of dependents. That is the approved amount. However, one receives the lesser of item 3 (longevity) or item 7, approved percentage, using VA comp tables. If it is the latter, the amount in the tables is not multiplied by anything; it is the precise amount.

This is fantastic, thank you, Ron! So if my claimed items are approved - $2,627/month (in a perfect world)? Or a percentage of that based on the approval of those three items?

You receive the lower amount of
—the longevity amount
OR
—The precise amount found in the VA comp tables for the approved CRSC percentage

Sorry, I do not predict what disabilities will be approved or not.

Also, the computation does not involve a percentage of the longevity (when comparing longevity to approved CRSC percentage)

@RetiredColonel-MikeT or @Provis might be of help.

Ron,

Thank you for all of the insight, this has clarified a lot for me. The three claimed items total 70%, which the VA compensation rate (with spouse and child) is $1917, and longevity at $2627. Best case scenario it would be the lower of the two.

Thank you again!

Here's to hoping :)

Hello, I recently was looking into the PACT Act and started to do some research and learned about CRSC. That is how I found this forum. Wondering why no one told me about this before. I was medically retired in Nov 2019 for Bi-Polar II disorder with DOD 70%. 11yrs service, I got VA 100% PT Looking into the following items that I thought may qualify (50% Sleep Apnea with Asthma) 10% Tinnitus 10% Hypertension 10% For each knee for chronic pain. 10% for lower back chronic pain. 10% each leg for varicose veins (had to have surgery) 10% GERD, A few other items that I don't think pertained to Deployments or Training. Couple questions YOS pay would be 1081$ but 70% DOD disability is 2751$. High 3 3931$. Would the 1081$ be the most I could get? Also, how much documentation is required to link the items I listed as Combat Related?

Hello,

Here is a collection of CRSC material: LINK <----

A link to the Army's HRC CRSC webpage is included toward the bottom of the page.

Info about documentation is at the collection and more specifically on the Army's site.

Your CRSC will be the lesser (lower amount) of
--Longevity portion of retired pay
OR
--The amount found in the VA comp tables for the percentage approved by the Army's board (CRSC). Example: 70% with spouse...find that rate in the tables.
