Does High 36 Apply to National Guard and Reservist?

It is my understanding a reservist retirement pay is calculated based off of points. However, when it comes to a medical retirement and CRSC, does the reservist calculate the retirement pay part of the formula using the point calculation or is the High 36 used regardless?

Example:

I have 22 years in (aprox 4400 points) as a reservist. I am 100% P&T with all injuries (combat included) coming from active orders (i.e. deployments, mobilizations, 30+day training). If I was to be medically retired , how would my "medical retirement" pay be calculated for the CRSC formula? Will it be high 36 or like a traditional reservist (points / 360 * 2.5% = "percentage of base pay")....which is not the same as High 36.

Your medical retirement pay will be the higher of the following:
a. High three average base pay x DoD disability percentage
OR
b. Active-duty equivalent years and months x 2.5% (2% if in the blended retirement) = longevity multiplier
High three average base pay x longevity multiplier

Your retired pay will be reduced dollar for dollar in the amount of VA compensation received. CRSC can replace some or all of the reduced/waived/offset retired pay.
There are other nuances pertaining to CRSC, but in general that is the way it works.

Your retirement orders should show your active duty equivalent 3/4 down on first page, as "Disability Retirement." At least that is the way the Army presents it.

Basically, the amount of CRSC is the lesser of
--the longevity portion of retired pay
OR
--The CRSC approved percentage and amount which mirrors the same rate/percentage in the VA comp tables.

Ron,

Thank you for your contribution to the forum in helping veterans Calculate CRSC. I think I finally understand it. Will you be able to double check my Calculations below.

Army Reservist with 20 years and 4032 retirement points divided by 360=11.2 years of service x 2.5=28% Longevity.
Final 3 year Average is $6695 (28% Longevity Max is 1875)
VA 100% with 80% of it being Combat Related Current amount from VA received 3865 which includes SMC-K
DOD 100% or 75% because of the limit in the law will be a total of 5021 from DOD.
from the 5021 i get from DOD, i will have to wave 3865 netting me 1156 from DOD.
So far i should get the VA 3865 and DOD 1156 for a total of 5021.
for CRSC my max longevity is 1875 as stated above. Using the VA chart table of 80 % its 2110, however, because of longevity limit i can only get a max of 1875 minus the 1156 the DOD will give me which i should get from CRSC 719

Final Tally should be:
3865 VA
1156 DOD
719 CRSC NOTE: DOD plus CRSC= 1875 (28% Max Longevity)
5740 Monthly Max Amount from all 3.

Please let me know if i am missing something

Based on your expertise and the use of the Edwards Calculator, there is no need for an audit of your computation.
