Dual status technician going through MEB/PEB

Hello Everyone!!

Can anyone going through or have went through a MEB/PEB, but are a federal employee who is also in the guard or reserve please share your experience with a MEB/PEB?

If I am medically separated from my military job I automatically lose my federal job, but how does that work?

Was it difficult with your federal job? (I have been on orders for over 180days in LWOP)

How did you receive your separation orders?

How did you start federal disability, was it after receiving disability ratings or separation orders?

who initiates separation orders? Are they done by your local base or AFPC?

what are my rights and benefits if I even have them.....?

Sorry so many questions, but it is rare that a dual status technician goes through this situation. I am hoping to find the few that do so I can get some guidance!!!
 
Good luck with that! Having been a Dual status guy for a while i know this is going to be a rough patch but you must take the time, read everything you can and check all the stuff they put in front of you. Make yourself a large binder, folders, ect... copy all medical files, be patient and do some research yourself because in the end, the USAF/ANG isnt on your side with this. Good luck!
 
What was your outcome from the board? I am racking up a medical debt because of being on leave and it is still not over....
 
What conditions sent you to a MEB. How long have you had this condition?

I was an AF Reservist that went through the MEB/PEB process after a deployment. I was also a Federal GS employee, straight civilian, not a technician. During my PEB process, over two years, I was on LWOP. I was also on MedCon orders during the MEB/PEB process. SSDI was approved while on MedCon orders. Didn't even know about t until my AF wounded Warrior case manager recommended I apply.

I was boarded for PTSD (70%) found unfit and retired, I also had over 26 years of active duty. My retirement orders were published by AFPC with input from the Disability Branch because I was in the PEB process.

I returned to my Federal employment, where I had to go through a physical, my job requires an annual physical, and failed retention standards due to PTSD/Fibro and medications. I initiated my disability retirement paperwork with my local CPF and was approved by OPM. When you initiate disability paperwork, it is mandatory you apply for SSDI if not applied for previously.

Any other questions don't hesitate to ask.

Hey @Deno! I am being boarded for a reconstructive surgery on my right wrist. I am a weapon's loader so I need full use of my hand to load weapons and do maintenance. My Federal job is doing the same exact thing. Due to the surgery I have very limited motion in my wrist. I have been waiting on a Addendum to my Narsum for 3 weeks because of poor communication.

Thank you so much for you reply! I have to look into SSDI because I didn't know I could do that while on orders!
