I am still on active duty, I am going to ask for LDES but I see that my commander has to approve it I was wondering if I could talk to a lawyer and medical commander for approval of LDES? Since you are still on active duty you should go through the IDES. Trying to get a rating and VA benefits after getting out can be riddled with issues. If your commander doesn't sign off on it you wouldn't be allowed to go through the LDES. My medical records are all sorts of messed up. It took me 3 years to go from 90% to 100% and I had to get Nexus letters and lawyer involved. There are numerous appeal built into the IDES and your much more likely to get more benefits going through the IDES. The VA is really backlogged with the PACT Act and fighting the VA while working or waiting for benefits is going to be really hard. I can't think of any reason why you would want to go through the LDES.

On another note, your commander can try top sink your med board by stating that there are 'no impacts to your ability to perform your duties' when he completes his Commander's impact statement. That statement holds weight throughout the med board.
Also, IDES VS LDES - This has been covered before on PEBFORUMs. There is no difference between LDES and IDES for keeping your VA rating. You can keep your rating by going either route. IDES provides you with more tools such as a DoD provided lawyer and the DoD having to accept the higher rating provided by the VA. The LDES has historically lowballed ratings vs the VA.
Choose IDES not LDES. You can keep your 100% P/T VA rating and be reviewed for DoD only. See the VA adjudication manual:
