MAFB Timeline(AD)

Lol tried getting my proposal letter from my MSC because I'm impatient but apparently he can't get it guess I'll just have to wait until next week:(
Don’t worry, the proposed letter is really nothing. The only thing it tells you is your proposed ratings and that’s it. If you don’t know your proposed rating then it could come in handy.

I hope everything processes fast through the PEB for you!

My MSC wasn't able to get my letter so I still don't know, I just don't know how I'm gonna get a job after so I kinda been stressing about my rating. And my condition has only gotten worse since this all started so they hasn't helped and where I'm stationed there is only one place who can see me off base and it always takes a long time to get an appointment.

Try and call the VA national number and see if they can at least give you your proposed rating. There are many who will give you your proposed rating over the phone. That way, you at least know what you’re getting and can plan for it better. It took me awhile of being persistent, but I finally got it. If the rating isn’t what you were expecting, you can file for a one time rating reconsideration from the VA for the unfitting conditions or file an HLR once you’re out.

I’m in the same boat with the job. I had to start transitioning into tech due to my conditions. You might be able to qualify yourself for some less physically / mentally demanding jobs based on your skills from the military. It wouldn’t make you rich, but it could help balance out everything and reduce the strain on you.

I don’t know the specifics of your condition but I hope that you’re able to get treated soon and start to feel better. If you aren’t staying in that local area after your MEB, it’s worth the to try see if they can slide you into their books sooner. If you get over 30%, you’ll be qualified for both VA healthcare and Tricare. I also believe that you will qualify for TAMP, the transitional health care for 6 months. Then you can have a better selection of where to be seen and can hopefully get seen on a regular basis.

I hope everything begins to proceed smoothly and work out for you.

My peblo was able to tell me my proposed total rating after I saw my claim close. Also I agree with 123pats, va phone call didn't tell me my rating but hinted at what it was, and a VERA appointment may get you what you desire, I'll be trying tonight and see if I can have my letter emailed to me!

Mine said they were still typing up something for the ipeb and she didn't know it yet so

Thx, but yeah just been super annoying because I've gotten like 8 LORs for being late because I get like 2-3 hours of sleep and cannot wake up or wake up and have a vertigo attack and literally cannot walk. Like just this morning I couldn't remember where I put my keys that I just had 10 mins before leaving I've lost them over 20 times just this month lol, but I was late for a uniform inspection because of it and I just had to talk to my section chief and probably getting paperwork again. But that's the biggest thing is they keep giving me paperwork, like I understand and they haven't gotten me into trouble for it it just makes everything I'm already dealing with so much more stressful.

Also idk why I'm just now finding out about the AF wounded warrior program, my old friend from bmt is in a MEB too and they helped him with the VA making sure was done and diagnosed correctly and they also got him a civilian job. It's just weird because the c&p examiners said I need a referral to a ENT/neurologist/sleep study to properly diagnose me and my MSC said I don't need additional exams so I hope that doesn't ruin my ratings.

I can understand why you would feel that way. It's weird that they keep giving you paperwork though if they know what you're going through. The best thing you can do is try and see your PCM. I know you mentioned one off base, but I don't know if you have one on base? If you do, message them through MHS Genesis and let them know what's going on. If you have it medically documented and updated in your profile, it can help your case against any future paperwork and hopefully relieve the stress on that end.

The good news is that your ratings will be back soon and then you'll be out processing. Your timeline could be getting your DOD ratings back within the next week, orders within 2 weeks of signing for your ratings, 15 days to out process, and then any PTDY / Terminal that you might have. Seems like orders has been taking most people between 2 days up to 15 days lately. Keep an eye for an open MyFSS case to track everything once you sign your ratings.

I wouldn't worry about it too much until you see the breakdown. When you see your PEBLO, you'll receive something called a NAR which breaks down every percentage that they rated you at from the highest to the lowest. It will tell you exactly why they rated you that and why they didn't give you the higher percentage. When you review that, you could choose to do the one time VA reconsideration request if you disagree with the rating of one of your unfitting conditions.

If it's not one of the unfitting conditions, then you'll have to do an HLR once you're out. However, you might want to check with the company handling your exams and ask them. Mine was VES and they were the ones who told me that I needed additional exams. My MSC had no clue and tbh I don't think she even cared. She still hasn't replied to the last 2 emails I sent her a few weeks ago and another that was sent sometime in early February.

Oh yeah I do have one on base but he is terrible, the only reason they started taking my condition seriously was because of a post on made on the AF reddit. OSI or someone saw it and reported it to my base command post and my commander made me go to the ER for MH. So my on base PCM has been of no help, basically the only thing he's helped me with was for referrals for off base and starting my MEB but it took a year after my injuries for him to do that...

So I'm honestly just trying to get out asap, so I was thinking if I don't like them I would accept it as long as my DOD is 30% then just redo it after I get out but idk cause that would def take longer. But yeah my biggest thing is them just literally not doing what all the examiners told them like I got diagnosed with sleep apnea and a TBI with no sleep study or exam with a neurologist(my off base neurologist ordered me one though and did confirm my TBI). Idk I'm just so lost with everything because I was in the middle of being treated for everything while the men was going on.

Edit: and sorry for sending so many long messages I really appreciate you responding.

Unfortunately, your PCM does have to wait a certain amount of time for some conditions. For instance, I believe Mental Health treatment has to of been on going for over a year and must be at a point to where they deem you unfit. Other conditions apparently are an immediate med board from what my PCM was explaining to me.

Are you able to speak with your off base doctor and get in sooner? The shitty thing is that you would still need your PCM to apply anything in a profile. Either way though, you're close to the finish and all of that won't matter anymore. Soon you'll be able to pick your own PCM in the area that you decide to relocate too.

Nope I told them I'm separating soon and they got me an appointment sooner but the soonest is 3 weeks so. And my profile is fine for a while they were refusing to give me one and didn't know till they told me but it was because it would trigger a meb so. Whole thing with medical has just been a nightmare had to get my shirt and patient advocate involved just to get care smh but yeah like you said I'll be out soon so it won't matter.

If you want to get out ASAP, once you recieve your orders, elect to sell your leave balance instead of going on terminal. You can also opt for 0 days for PTDY that's given from your commander. I turned down 30 days of PTDY so that I could get out of the military sooner and start my VA effective date in June. However, you could also just take any terminal and PTDY if you believe that your command would leave you alone for that entire time.

As for the exam things, I would start to track down: your msc, the exam provider, and talk with the doctor that actually did the exam. Be a strong advocate for yourself. These people don't care about your case or life as much as you do. My case itself had many issues that I had to resolve myself and figure out. Right now, it's a little too late to try and get your exams re-done since you're waiting for the DOD rating. However, you can file an HLR once you get out. But use that NAR that you will get and see exactly what the VA tells you. They will give you word for word why you're denied or got a specific rating. Use that to your advantage. The best thing is that you would get back pay on any conditions that are increased.

As for the sleep study, the VA usually require one. I had one done at a DOD facility and the VA / VES almost made me go to complete another one. Thankfully they just accepted the one that I already did.

And no worries! I know how stressful this process is. I've been anxious to figure out my VA rating, then the DOD rating, and now I'm anxious to know when my orders will drop.

You will most likely have your DOD rating back before your appointment and could possibly have your orders by then as well so that's some good news. Just keep advocating for yourself and if you have to, call around and bug people. I did that quite a bit and fixed issues in multiple stages throughout my MEB.

Then you can use that to your advantage. You can either sell your leave or only take your terminal. Then you start your VA effective date sooner. I made this choice because I've seen it take 30-60 days for the proposed ratings to be changed to firm ratings. I personally want to get my VA benefits started ASAP.
