Hello all,

Been lurking for a few months and decided to post my timeline as hopefully it helps someone, as this forum has helped me quite a bit. I am currently active duty Navy with 20 years and 4 months TIS. I know this will lead to retirement, just ready for the process to be over with.

01 Mar 2022- Initial injury, ruptured L5/S1 disc with multiple bulging disc in lumbar spine.

01 Mar 2022-11 Dec 2023- 128 days LLD, 500 days LIMDU, two surgeries and hospitalized due to lumbar osteomyelitis/discitis. During this time I received three steroid epidural injections, medial branch nerve block, radio frequency ablasion, L5/S1 microdiscectomy, 8 week IV treatment and hospitalization for osteomyelitis, L5/S1 fusion with facectectomy and all with no positive effects. Radiculopathy runs down both legs and I have lost complete function of the left foot, right foot is completely numb and left leg has atrophied noticeably. I have tried physical therapy, acupuncture, massage, yoga and several other modalities to no avail. After all this, neurosurgery at Portsmouth Naval hospital decided to initiate a med board.

11 Dec 2023- MEB Initiated

12 Dec 2023- Initial Narsum submitted

19 Dec 2023- PEBLO assigned

21 Dec 2023- VA/Legal brief

28 Dec 2023- VA MSC assigned, initial claim completed

29 Dec 2023- Completed and signed VA Claim

8 Jan 2024- CO NMA completed and submitted

11 Jan 2024-14 Feb 2024- C&P Exams completed with VES

18 Jan 2024- Meeting with DES attorney

25 Feb 2024- All DBQ’s uploaded to Tricare Online

27 Feb 2024- C&P reconciliation completed

27 Feb 2024- Received Narsum and all DBQ’s to review

28 Feb 2024- Signed Narsum

28 Feb 2024- Convening authority signs off MEB, forwards to PEB

29 Feb 2024- PEBLO reaches out and states PEB case has been submitted. Also states to not expect anything for three months.

Now the waiting game begins. I have seen a few post of cases that move quicker than the three month timeline given, but I’ve also seen cases take a lot longer. So far my case has moved along as smoothly as I can expect and hopefully it continues to do so.

I will update this post as I receive updates. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions or just to vent.

Thank you for sharing. Timelines are varied, but people are always wondering about them.

by chance did you have your fleet reserve letter before entering the IDES process
No I did not have my fleet reserve letter before entering. I asked my ECM if they would just let me retire instead of going through the MEB process and she said, "that's what the IDES process is for." I had an extension that would take me to 22 years and the Navy refused to let me out before that due to manning concerns.

Gotcha! I was just curious cause kind of the in the same boat. In the process of the MEDBOARD. I just went up to review my NARSUM and talked with my lawyer. I have my letter and everyone that I have talked to has told me that once it gets to the PEB process that “I can expect my letter to get pulled” I then asked well if PEB determines “PFIT” would I have to reapply for Fleet Reserve??? I really don’t want to go down that road again and Big Navy change their mind? Hopefully that makes sense

I don't know how much having the letter affects the board. I would assume the board would take into account that you could already retire. I know if you go through the PEB and get at least 30% DOD then you will be retired through the PEB process. The only part about that is not having your date until it's time to get out. That is the most stressful part of this whole thing, the not knowing when the ball will drop. It makes total sense not wanting to leave anything up to big Navy but that's the predicament that we're in. Best wishes

**UPDATE**

20 Mar 2024- Spoke with my PEBLO this morning and she stated that I am showing Screening Ready in the system. She stated that this is only step 2 in a 9 step system. She also stated that more than likely it will take the full three months, and sometime people get to step 8 and then sit there for 80 days with no rhyme or reason. This whole process is so stressful and after 20 years of hurry up and wait, more of the same.

**UPDATE**
26 Mar 2024- Called the VA because I am impatient and was told that they haven't received anything for rating. Crazy that it's been almost a month and my case hasn't even been sent to the VA for rating yet. I've been checking the app everyday but finally called and found out it was all for nothing. Some of the timelines on here have made me hopeful of a quick timeline, but in true Navy fashion, that's turning out to be not true.

**UPDATE**
01 Apr 2024- Spoke with PEBLO today and she stated that my case is with a VA Rating Officer and that is step 7 of 9. I guess my case is moving pretty quickly because it went from step 2 to step 7 in 12 days. She stated that there is only two steps left but they could take months. Feels good to know that my case is moving forward.

Best hope the two steps taking months comment is an april fools joke haha

This makes me tempted to call my PEBLO and ask what step my PEB is on. Is there a way to phrase it? She's not to hot with answering my questions lol

My PEBLO has been awesome. Anytime I call she picks up the phone and if I email her, she calls me right away so she can explain whatever her answer is instead of just sending a response. I just call and say hey I'm just wanting some kind of update and she logs in the system and pulls up my case and tells me what step it's in. She was surprised that I went from step 2 to step 7 in twelve days but still had to preface it with it may still take a while. I would just call and ask for an update because it helps ease your mind when you know you case is moving forward.

Happy to hear that you have a good PEBLO, mine not so much. Once I was told my package was being sent up to DC, she said don’t expect anything until the 120 day mark. I pretty much got the impression, don’t hit me up until that point! So yeahhhh, just chillin until at least July

I would take that "120 day" mark with a grain of salt.

If your PEBLO isn't of any help or assistance, call the PEB directly and ask for an update. There's a key status that you're waiting on and that's going into a Post VA QA status. Once you're there, your case has anywhere from 40 to 50 days remaining from what I've seen here on the forums before your findings come back.

For reference, my case was accepted by the PEB on 12 Feb, 32 days later, on 14 March, it went into the Post VA QA phase which I found out through the PEB directly. Even if my case goes to the 50 day mark, it would only be 80 days from acceptance to findings.

I'm not saying that this is exactly how your case is going to go but I wouldn't want you sitting around for an additional 30 days for no reason just because your PEBLO is uninformed.

I have seen many messages on here about terrible PEBLO's, I hate that for people going through this process. Mine did tell me up front to not expect anything for three months, but she also told me to call her every two weeks for updates. There is only one time I've called her that she hasn't answered and I found out later that it's because she was teleworking that day. Hopefully you will get some feedback before the 4 month mark. I would just call them on a regular interval and request an update. I will tell you that updates really help with the anxiety associated with this process.

I'm anxiously waiting for that Post VA QA stage. I am so ready to be done with this process and move on with my life. It is crazy that a QA process is allowed to take 40 to 50 days. My PEBLO told me that she has seen it take up to 80 days. That is crazy, and hopefully none of us end up in that camp. I did call the VA yesterday and they told me my case was moving through their process but it's hadn't received proposed ratings yet. I know that I will end up retired from this process due to being over 20 years and being told there is no way I will be found fit. All I'm waiting for is the VA percentages to put my mind at ease.

Hey! How do I find the number to call the PEB directly?

thank you for offering this information! What do you think would be the most direct way to ask about my case, to see where it is at?
