I have been in for 3 years. 2 of which were spent in Tech School (I was at DLI for Urdu and reclassed into Finance after several deaths in my family hindered me from completing school). I have an injury from Basic training (left knee dislocation which has subsequently led to issue with overcompensation of my right knee) and I have been on a waiver for ALL of those 2 years. At Keesler (while in tech school for finance for 3 months) a clinic Dr put in my medical records that she recommends I be put up for a med board for my knee. Once I arrive at hurlburt field, my PCM informed me that she would be putting me up for the Med Board per the documentation in my records. A few weeks later she let me know that DOG (idk the acronym) rejected the Med board because I have not had a work up on my knee. At the time I was relieved. Now, a year later, my squadron has let me know that they would like me to go ahead and talk to my PCM about going forward with a med board. I had the appt with my PCM and she put in a referral to an Ortho Surgeon to see me and provide a work up for my knee. She said considering its been 2 years on a waiver and the past year on and off one, she will send my records up to DOG regardless of what the surgeon says. I know the process takes a year most times, but what exactly is the process and what should I generally expect? Is there anything I need to know? I actually want this med board because I don't really want to be in the military anymore. My only concern is receiving my GI benefits for school once I separate. Please Help!
