TSGLI Claim Approval

Anyone have any success with these claims? I get that the people with success scour these forums to post their stories, but it seems most of what I’m reading is doom and gloom with these TSGLI applications.

If you’ve gone through this, how long did it take from submission to answer? (I know the website say 180 days but looking for experiences of others). I had a buddy submit and get paid out 3 weeks later, but I’m at about 6 weeks now and just curious while I’m still laid up and recovering.

I can't tell you the timeline, but I have known a few people who were awarded TSGLI. If you have it coming, apply.

Thanks Charlie. I applied and meet all criteria, with a good amount of med docs to support, I’m just getting the gist that HRC does more to disapprove then approve.
 
I suspect the number of claims versus adjudicators is lopsided. VA has made efforts to speed claims; DoD lags. Think about the IDES process, DoD misses lots of gates.
 
Well, I haven't had any tangents with TSGLI but I don't think there is a particular timeline. As other domains work I think it's very individual.
 
My observation with TSGLI was that the review process was very long. I believe it was over 6 months from claim submission to payment (this was over a year ago). Putting the claim together took quite a while.
 
The criteria is pretty cut and dried. But like everything DoD, to many offices have a hack at the decision and implementation.

Personally, I like to have a 5 million term life insurance cost. In this way, I don't have to worry about anything like this kind. There are multiple options on the market and even the prices aren't as high as some people think. If you choose the correct people to work with you won't have difficulties like debts or waiting forever for insurance to arrive.
 
I just submitted my TSGLI claim early March 2026, I had some feedback in late March regarding missing documents which I was able to obtain and resubmit on April 8th. Still awaiting a final approval.
