When will I receive my severance pay

Any updates on DFAS from anyone or has anyone received thier money? I called DFAS about my Severance because they received my orders on 6 Feb and they could not tell me anything. They did not know what the status was. All they could tell me was to call back next month.

From earlier this month, but related to 2019:

"My orders were dated 12 March 2019, I received my severance pay on 21 June 2019, and the letter from DFAS on 26 June 2019. "

Although that is not a current update, it shows that a payment was made about three months after the orders were issued.

Thoughts: The processing time for severance pay is difficult to determine and it is my belief that it is ever-changing. The severance pay cases continue to flow and that has a bearing on how long it will take to process a payment. Additionally, if SGT Smith received his/her payment within three months and two days, that doesn't mean the payment for SGT Jones will follow that timeline. That said, if I was waiting for a severance payment, I too would want a precise payment date.

Guess: Payment within three months after the orders date.

Good luck,
Ron

Ouch! I do not like the sound of that. I was expecting to possibly receive the severance in the 30 day mark.

Perhaps you will; I hope so. However, if you read the many posts about "when will I be paid" I think you will find that 30 days would be unusual.

You can use the search feature at the upper right of the page to search for "severance" I think you will find different experiences.

Ron

I am 4 days away from the 30 day mark and it doesn't look like DFAS has done much with my orders. Everytime I call them they say that it's processing and that it might take 60 days. As today I am schedule to receive retirement pay. I called them last week to let them know that I'm not supposed to get anymore retirement pay and they said that the system has not been updated and that any pay after the 29 of January has to be pay back to them.

Everytime I speak to DFAS they tell me they received my packet on a different date and i truly feel they are just making up a response to tell me. Am I at the mercy of DFAS or can TDRL support line or someone else give me an updated status on my severance?

Are you still recieving retirement pay?.

I am 100% P&T with the VA so I still receive that monthly
Ok, but are you still recieving retirement pay from DFAS? That would be a good indication that they haven't done anything with your orders. I am on the phone with them now trying to figure out why I am getting retirement pay still.

I have only ever received money from the VA. I have never received additional retirement money. I was on TDRL since 2017 and I only got money from the VA

Because you're 100 va the money from that it's probably more than the money from tdrl and you only get one. In my case va is 2400 and tdrl 2874 so tdrl only pay the defferance. Call dfas and ask the if you are retired or separated in their system.

Hello,

Re: "...you get only one."

If VA compensation is higher than the DoD CH 61 retirement, then the veteran would receive only VA comp.

If the VA comp is less than the retired pay, the veteran would receive VA comp + residual retired pay (i.e., pay left after the reduction).

DFAS is a joke. Wait on hold for 30 mins just to get told they dont know what the status is. Lady from DFAS told me it could be 90 days before they even look at my orders even though they confirmed receipt of them. Soldiers deserve better

I just finished talking to them and they told me it'll be 60 for the orders to be processed and tdrl pay stop. And then it could take another 90 days before I received my severance. That's 5 months total.

That's exactly what's happening in my case.

Hello,

Which? I presented two scenarios.

If VA compensation is higher than the DoD CH 61 retirement, then the veteran would receive only VA comp. (This is likely your situation.)

If the VA comp is less than the retired pay, the veteran would receive VA comp + residual retired pay (i.e., pay left after the reduction).

Second one.

Ahhhh,,,good choice when deciding whether to accept VA comp. Some do not realize they still receive residual retired pay if it exists (i.e., the reduction of retired pay is not total in these cases).

In my case I didn't get taxed because my injuries are combat related.

Well DFAS has received my orders as of 6 February but no severence yet. Not even been processed. How much longer?
