jason, i am in the air national guard. during the last four years i have been activated for the iraq war. during this time i started having fainting spells and blacking out. during the last incident when this happened i was rushed to the emergency room and they found the blackouts were being caused by my heart stopping ( sick sinus syndrome ) so i was rushed to surgery and a pacemaker was placed in my chest which will be there the rest of my life. a line of duty letter was completed. i know that they will medically discharge me. i have 20 total years of service in the air guard, with 13 of those years being active duty. upon being medically discharged, will i be able to start recieving a retirement check and medical benefits right away ? and, in your openion, will the medical board rate this condition that i have at 30% or above. thank you for your help sir.

Hi there Jason. I was referred to this forum by screenname brainwl on VBN. I'm extremely new to this, so please bear with me. My husband is a Marine currently on TDRL for PTSD. He is coming up on his final review and we are in the process of gathering as much info about this as possible. His VA doc has agreed to write the final narrative but I am having a heck of a time trying to find out the format for this letter. HQ has given us some info, but not a lot. If you could help with info or point me in the direction of someone who does, I would be eternally greatful. Thank you so much. ~ Alex

well i guess i should start with i am a 11b1p i have been in for 6 years i have been hit with 1 ied no loc but daysed and knocked out 6 times from jumping my dictation was sent to dc but i am just worerd about what the army might give me i was diagnosed with post concussion syndrome ,sever migranse and daily tension headacks the thing is i wont at least 30% or tdrl becasue i planed on staying in because of the insorance my son is altsic does anyone have any knowlage oh this if so please help me out

Thanks again for the information. Do you know if the ABCMR decides the status of the MEB or will I have to get a decison from them, then go through the MEB process? Have you heard of cases like mine before?

I was placed on the TDRL 01/01/2005 for Thoracic Outlet Syndrom with Nerve pinching for 40% connected and a 1st rib resection. Now I live in the United kingdom right now with my wife and daughter and am having orders sent to me to go to Landstuhl medical hospital in Germany for my consultation for my PEB. If I can get back to a fit for duty status from the PEB. Does the Marine Corp let people go back to active duty status or do they still like to deny marine's the opportunity to go back in for the medical condition i had, but am now fit for duty from the tdrl. I've been wanting to get back in badly and can't wait to get those order's for my enlistment to start again, but am worried about being let down. any help would be great since the recruiters don't ever have a understanding as to why i was discharged and why

Jason, Great site and information. Can you comment on my situation:
I have a question in regards to MED Board. I have 6.5 years active service and 3 years in US Army reserve. I was activated in 2006 to go to Iraq to serve as a Transition Team advisor for the Iraq Army. I was hit with a katusa rocket and medevac out of Iraq. (Yes 2 weeks shy of finishining) The rocket literally landed an arms length away from me. I was processed out of the army, and recieved 60% VA rating. I was offically separated in Sep 08. Now I have some buddies going through the medical board process, and I for the life of me couldnt understand why that was not an option for me? I couldnt be a solider, the way I was trained to be so I choose to get out. Is there a away to appeal to get the the baord to look at my file to see if I could qualify for Miitary retirement? It is all combat related, all service connected. If so, whom would I contact, as I am not with a unit any longer.

I have been discharged from the Marine Corps for 20 years. I injured my ankle prior to joining the Corps and the injury was fully disclosed. I had a letter from my doctor stating that it was healed. I completed Boot Camp with no issues. After serving 18 months running became very difficult and painful. I was discharged with the following statement on my DD214 "Physical disability existing prior to entry determined by PEB" with a separation code of JFN1. Was my condition considered aggravated or not aggravated?

Pardon me Jason, but one more question. I am a gunner and my primary weapon is a SAW. Whenever I have to carry my SAW (slung on my back), it causes a lot of strain and makes me stiff for days. Should I be on a temporary profile, and if so, any recommendations so I don't hurt my hip/lower back any more than it already is? Thanks.

Jason, good day. I'm in the ILARNG stationed in Afghanistan until Aug. I ETS in November 09, and I have injured my lower back, more specifically--my right hip is tilted forward and is about an inch higher than my left hip. As a result, my right leg is shorter than my left leg. I had an x-ray back in March that shows the right hip tilted. I have had it adjusted several times, but it keeps moving out of alignment. What kind of VA claim would this be? I have seen the charts for percentages, etc. but I'm not sure exactly which number it will be. Would it be the hip/flail or would it be some other? Any input would be appreciated, thanks.

I am on a TDRL and I am wondering if I can recieve CDRL. I have a VA rating of 70% but I am under 20 years. I have read the rules but I am unsure. Can you please help me.

My husband was rated 100% by the VA and all of it service-connected. He is currently on TDRL but want him on PDRL. He has 24 years total service. 9 Years Active Duty. He is currently 54 years old. Can we move up the re-evaluation of TDRL up? He is at 50% currently. He is PEBLO is in Washington and we are in Arizona. Can we have everything taken care of here?

First let me thank you for what you do. I am in the MEB process and I am waiting on my NARSUM, if I have a not fit for duty as determined by the MEB the PEB has to assign some type of rating to it. Right? I understand that the rating can be exsited prior to service, or any numerical value that is in the VARSD, but I will recieve some sort of rating. Or am I off the mark? Also, I was injuried in Iraq while on a combat support mission, but it was not "combat" related. I was severlly injuried while on a combat vehicle implaceing barriers for combat support. I was crushed between two of these barriers and draged ten feet or so by the military vehicle. My question is should I qualify for CRSC? Any input would be helpfull I am banging my head against the wall here.

I received my MEB package last Friday, thus the10 day clock started for my review process. After receiving the package from the PEBLO they called me to tell me my ratingss are wrong and need to be corrected. So, I asked is my 10 days on hold and or void as I do not have the correct information to make an informed decision, as far as an appeal. The PEBLO said 10 day clock is ticking; is this true? I called down to your office today and left an message, but as you do not have staff to assist I figured I better e-mail you ASAP. Also, would you be able to represent me regarding the appeal process?

Jason, good morning, i was referred to you for the following questions, not sure were else to go but trying to get some help. Questions are a soldier after 34 years of service, been deployed, has a lod pending with no communication os of this date, injured while in IDT status, packet went before the QRB board came back after the rebuttal with non retain. Should his file gone before the QRB board before completely recovered and not been released from any doctor, while the LOD packet is still pending? He is still in recovery period, TAG's letter states being retired as of 30 September. He has not and is not receiving end cap pay. Do you know which regulation states he can not be discharged until after recovery period and/or his file should not have gone before the QRB? He is also a federal technician. thanks

Jason I am currently an Army Reservist CPT with 7.5 years active duty service. I separated in July 08 and joined the Reserves. I am currently rated 80% by the VA with that I decided that my illness from my 3 deployments has gotten progressively worse. I have had 3 surgeries on my sinuses since 2004 and am scheduled for another end of June. I am due to attend a PHA appt on the 18 May. My unit is pressing for an MMRB. My disabilities are Chronic Sinusitis, Asthma, and a knee injury. I never had these problems before my 3 deployments with the Active duty. I am being told that since AC never did a LOD, if they decide to put me out (which is what I am looking for) I will not receive any benefits. Can you please provide some guidance? What should I be fighting for? I know that I want to press to be retired but how do I press that issue?
Any guidance would be appreciated.

I'm a Recruiter in the ARNG on ADSW orders, waiting on an AGR Board.
I was treated by a Civilian Hospital and Dr for rapid heart beats over 240 per minute in Jan 2009. The Hospital reported that bloodwork indicated a heart attack and a Cardiac Ablation was performed. The Army Dr. informed (Fit For Duty),but with a Temp P3 pending MEB Eval. Scheduled to attend AGR board when I return,but my NCOIC informed me I can not go AGR w/a P3.
My questions:Can they Terminate ADSW orders & send me back to an M-Day status? (Per NCOIC) What can MEB do? Do I collect Works Comp or Unemployment? Is a Heart Attack & Cardiac Ablation enough for Medical Discharge? I have been on ADSW for 1 year. LOD occured Jan 2009.
Should I get an Attorney? I want to stay active.
Please advice as What I should do or expect. My Chain of Command is all about the Recruiting and not about taking care Soldiers.

I am new to this site but seems like it has an abundant amount of information. I am currently in the navy I have been in for 5 years and have had back problems for some time I had a procedure called IDET done on it in 2007 during which time I was on LIMDU, this seemed to make things better for a little over a year, at which time I started feeling pain again and wanted to make sure everything was okay and went to see the doc and got an MRI however they found that again the same location that they fixed before is messed up. L5/S1 herniated disc with annular tears and degenerative disc disease at L4/L5 and L5/S1. I am on Limdu again 2nd period and was supposed to transfer per doctors orders to facilitate treatment however there are no funds to transfer me. LIMDU ends in the middle of summer and will be at 12 mos and will be referred to PEB. This is a daily dilemna any advice that you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Jason I am writing to ask what else we can do to help my husband and his situation. It seems that he is just being tossed aside and the Army is not taking responsibility for him when technically he is still in the army. I understand that he can not collect both VA and Army but I mean he was only awarded 30% for his injuries but yet the VA has him at 100% I do not know where to go or what to do....
