40% with permanent retirement - good?

just got a result of: unfit, 40% rating, permanent medical retirement - (I have 15yrs). all things considered...not such a bad outcome, I assume.

i understand that my entitlements should be 40% of my last 36 months...i guess i was hoping to be at 50% (to be similiar to a full 20-year retirement - at least in percentage)...are there any other benefits (differences) between 30% and 40% aside from the obvious 10%?

Thanks.

Above 30% the only difference is retirement pay (based on the disability percentage).

It's not good it's great.

What was your condition? Might help others guage what they might receive. I know they are all different, but still.

permanent nerve damage, left ankle/leg
loss of range of motion, left ankle
chronic pain, left ankle
muscular atrophy, left calf
discoloration, left ankle
RSD/CRPS
ALL of these were 30% combined rating

Chronic low back pain
lumbar spondolysis
degenerative disc disease
loss of range of motion, back
ALL of these were 10% combined rating

together they were 37%; rounded up to 40%

my stuff was at the IPEB for about 40-days before decision/recommendation

40 days......good for you. Mine hit 12 weeks (Still waiting), Robs, whats yours at now?

I am happy for you and hope that percentage will help with the loss being able to work. I am new at this MEB thing and have much of the same issues as you. Would you share the ROM of your back and ankle. And I had no Idea that there was compensation for muscle atrophy.

I have weakness in the dorsalfletion movement in my left ankle. it stems from my back. In my medical records it sates stinosis. It is hard for me to bend in any direction. It sounds like you know the pain I am going through every day. And I have an awsome limp.
I had never been to sick call prior to the night that I was injured in combat( Over 4 years). As I read about stenosis it has to do with aging. I didn't have back pain prior to that night. I am "Skeert" that I am not going to get the compensation for not getting to finish my career in the Army.
Do you have any advice for someone that is going to there fisrt medical exam next week?
Thanks All.

After 100+ jumps and 15+ years of Active Duty, I had an ankle surgery that went bad (medical malpractice if not for the Ferris Doctrine).

This may be long, but I hope it helps. I am not sure how the actual breakdown was computated (i.e. atrophy, ROM, RSD, etc), but here is what was listed all together as 30%:
"Soldier developed severe, postoperative pain that was consistent with RSD and CRPS. He underwent local injections as well as lumbar sympatheic blocks without relief. He describes constant dysesthesis and sharp pain with movement of his left ankle. Neurology consultant noted color changes in the foot and extreme sensitivity to palpation. While performing the NCS, the Soldier had extreme pain in his ankle and intolerable pain in his EHL stimulation that limited the study. There is visible atrophy in the left calf, hyperalgesia, ruborous skin color with swelling. Radiographs showed mild degenerative changes. Range of motion (ROM) (limited by pain) of the left ankle showed a dorsiflexion of 15 degrees, and plantar flexion of 20 degrees. Soldier manages the pain with opioid medications. Soldier is unable to perform APFT, etc, etc, etc...."

Here is what is listed for the 10%:
"Low back pain. Soldier developed daily low back pain without inciting event. There is no radiculopathy. On examination, there is diffuse tenderness along the paraspinous musculature. Lower extremity strength is equal and symmetrical. There is mild straightening of the lubar lordosis. MRI showed a mild discongenic disease spondylosis, posterior disc bulge at L2-3 and L4-5. There was a central NHP at L2-3. There is a moderate amount of facet osteoarthropathy at L4-5 and L5-S1. ROM showed a forward flexion of 80 degrees. Soldier is unable to perform the APFT, etc, etc, etc..."

Again, that is directly from the DA 199, so I don't know how they determined the specifics....hope it helps.
