Air Guard: Leaning towards LDES

Went to get my official NARSUM yesterday and spoke with the PEBLO about the LDES and IDES. I've been rated at 70% for a psychological condition since 2013 and the Air Guard finally got my records up to the active duty component handing the MEB/PEB process last month. I spoke with the OAC yesterday and I'm waiting to hear back from an attorney, but at 70% with VA I don't see a positive for going through the IDES in this kind of situation.

Other than the principle of the matter, all I'm looking to get through the DOD side is a 30% rating to secure Tricare for my family, I'm content with the VA side of the house. I feel like the VA gave me an accurate rating in 2013 and that it still applies so I'm hesitant to poke a stick in that fire and have them reexamine my case if I don't have to. Anyone who's dealt with the VA knows one examiner and rater can go one way and another examiner and rater can swing in another direction.

Still waiting to speak with JAG, I have until next Tuesday to make my DES election, but I'd like to get some opinions from the board. I felt like it was a pretty easy decision for me, but looking through some of the recent forum posts I see a lot of trepidation towards the LDES system for the reserve components.

You are wanting to go thru the LDES system because you are happy with the va rating and you are trying to get at least a 30% DOD rating. So like a good plan. But is that possible.

But is that possible.

My psychologist, prior service military service herself, wrote up a statement that she's reviewed my previous medical records and that even on my medications I can barely function enough to hold a civilian job let alone fulfill my military duties. She included results from the PCL-M, MMSE, BDI-II she administered and that in her professional medical opinion I qualify for a permanent 100% medical retirement.

Even with that, after all the comments I've seen on this board I'm hesitant to go the LDES route, but on the other side of the coin, I'm even more apprehensive about reinvolving the VA.

Ok. I understand your situation now. I will say this, that is one firm letter she wrote. Hopefully someone else will chime in and help.

I'm ANG as well. How long did it take to hear back from the Guard Bureau on their recommendation once the active duty DAWG found you unfit?

I'm also leaning towards LDES. Wondering if you think going through the VA after separation will hold you up for other employment opportunities? Can employers, even government employers, hold you off and refuse you until the VA process is complete, or is that something you just do on your own time?

Thanks!

I agree, anyone whose fought for their VA rating wouldn't want to put it at risk if they didn't have to. Especially if 30% DOD is all you need. I think LDES would have been the way to go. What did you choose?
