I am also in the MEB process, but have not gone to the IPEB yet. I had a line for E-7 and was fortunate enough to be allowed to put it on while going through this system. From my own personal experiences, even though you are in this process, which is lengthy to say the least, I would be prepared to put on my stripe regardless of what is going on with the MEB. You have to think ahead in the fact that this process has many steps......Once your NARSUM is sent with the Commanders Letter and your letter if you so choose to the IPEB, the board meets and makes an initial decision. If you decide to accept their decision, you still have a few months to outprocess and get your ducks in a row. I would not want to be running around outprocessing with the incorrect rank on....As well, you have the option of appealing the IPEB decision based on whether you agree with their initial decision or not. Say they come back with less than 30%, and you decide to fight for medical retirement versus severance, you would have more time and be considered active until the FPEB meets and their decision comes through. In addition, you also have the option of appealing via the Secretary of the Air force which adds more time to the timeline, because you remain active until this decision comes back as well (from my understanding at least...) Unless you have other administrative actions pending, I.e. failed PT tests which result in referral EPR's, and thus you are ineligible to put on rank until you pass the test and the next epr comes out that is not a referral, I would personally recommend just planning on putting on your stripe, id cards, etc. and everything else that comes with putting on a new rank as scheduled. Hope this helps.
