Losing my promotion?

I am due to put on E7 in April and my IPEB is about to start. Do I spend the money to get uniforms ready or will I not sew on?

From what I have been reading, Its anybodys guess. I would wait to 2 weeks out and only get done what you think you can get by with. I'm hoping I don't need to buy the sage green boot before Nov 1 of 2011.

I am also in the MEB process, but have not gone to the IPEB yet. I had a line for E-7 and was fortunate enough to be allowed to put it on while going through this system. From my own personal experiences, even though you are in this process, which is lengthy to say the least, I would be prepared to put on my stripe regardless of what is going on with the MEB. You have to think ahead in the fact that this process has many steps......Once your NARSUM is sent with the Commanders Letter and your letter if you so choose to the IPEB, the board meets and makes an initial decision. If you decide to accept their decision, you still have a few months to outprocess and get your ducks in a row. I would not want to be running around outprocessing with the incorrect rank on....As well, you have the option of appealing the IPEB decision based on whether you agree with their initial decision or not. Say they come back with less than 30%, and you decide to fight for medical retirement versus severance, you would have more time and be considered active until the FPEB meets and their decision comes through. In addition, you also have the option of appealing via the Secretary of the Air force which adds more time to the timeline, because you remain active until this decision comes back as well (from my understanding at least...) Unless you have other administrative actions pending, I.e. failed PT tests which result in referral EPR's, and thus you are ineligible to put on rank until you pass the test and the next epr comes out that is not a referral, I would personally recommend just planning on putting on your stripe, id cards, etc. and everything else that comes with putting on a new rank as scheduled. Hope this helps.

MEB should not affect promotions (unless your discharged before the promotion!)

Thank you for your inputs! I've searched Instructions and can't find specifics. My PEBLO(S) are doing a good job in my opinion, but some of thier info is from the hip. I was told that I won't be promoted unless the finance people don't notice my MEB/PEB code. I also heard that promotion actions stop the day the Secretary (Air Force for me) signs the final paperwork.

Is it also true that my retirement pay will be computed from the day I entered the DES?

You should be able to pin on. See AFI 36-2502, Table 1.1.

Your retirement pay will be calculated as of the date of retirement (preceding 36 months of pay added together and then divided by 36...though under the DODFMR, there are some exceptions to this for particular circumstances - none of which appear to apply to you).

Good luck!

Looks like I will get to sew on. However, if my IPEB comes back before April, and I accept it, then it might be turned off.

Thanks again.
