MEB For Asthma

Hello! I’m currently going through a MEB. I’m Air Force. I just recently got a nebulizer to help with my asthma attacks. I wouldn’t call my asthma “controlled” yet. Does anyone know if the AF will decide not to retain me? Or what are the chances? I’m currently on breo ellipta daily, singulair daily, use my albuterol inhaler before exercise, now use my nebulizer at least once daily. I appreciate any insight.

Hi! I was wondering if you could provide an update to your experience as I may be going through something similar soon.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hey! My process from start to finish took 2.5 months. So it was super quick. I was medically retired. I thought they’d retain me because I had a desk job. But nope. Have you started the process or did MEB just get thrown out there?

Thank you for the response! I have not started anything. I’m an AGR in the Air Guard. I have 16 years, but only 10 yrs active and currently on active orders.

I started having issues last August, went to the doctor several times, normal chest x ray etc. He then sent me to a pulmonologist where I failed a PFT. They did a CT scan and I have ground glass opacities in my left lung and had an abnormal EKG. They suggested pneumonia, but they also mentioned asthma. Once released from the hospital, they gave me a 15 day round of strong steroids. I started doing better and then around 3 weeks after the steroids, I’m back to non stop coughing.

I go back to the pulmonologist next week and I know I’ll fail the PFT. I just hope if I HAVE to get out, I can medically retire as opposed to getting medically separated.

Dang. You have a lot more time invested than I did. I had a little over 6 years active. My VA pulm agreed that the Covid vax caused me to get asthma because I never had any issues until after getting it. I got 30% for it from VA and I think that’s how they got their dod percentage.

When you went to the VA pulm, did you have to go through the PFT and any other testing or did they use the results from your PCM?
