When will I receive my severance pay

I just noticed this morning that my orders are in hrcapps.army.mil under DA199 tab. It shows my separation date as 6 Feb 2020. My orders show a distro to DFAS. Am I correct in assuming this means 30 days til Severance? Also my Orders say combat related so will they tax my Severance up front and I get it back or not taxed at all?

I cant speak on the combat related side but my severance pay was not supposed to be taxed due to me already having a VA percentage rating for the same condition (my orders even stated that my severance should not be taxed) and they taxed it anyways. I am in the process of getting my tax refund back. I would call DFAS again to see the date they received your orders and you can go from there.

Were you TDRL?

That is odd they would tax it if it was on your orders. How do you get it back?
I had to submit a request to DFAS via fax with my original DD-214, separation orders, new PEB board results, VA award letter, and handwritten signature. My request has been in review over 60 days now. There have been some individuals on this forum who successfully received their tax refund back so hoping I join that group soon. However, mine is a fairly large amount (around $30K) so mine may take longer.

Did you have to wait until you received your Severance before you submitted to recoup lost taxes or did you submit before? Just trying to be proactive if they tax me because it seems they tax everyone up front and make you fight to get your money back

My severance is also combat related and I was informed by DFAS that most likely it will be taxed and that I would have to request the taxes back after I have received my severance. I would need to submit my DD214, my separation orders and signature, and a form provided by DFAS. They said that it would take about 90 days to get the tax money back.. it feels that I am getting screwed by the army one last time....

Yes, I waited because I wasnt sure if the taxes would be taken out or not.

90 days is not accurate - other members and myself have experienced between 4 - 6 months total time (Im currently over 4 months with no refund) to get the tax refund back. I spoke with a rep today and she said "they are behind".

and its not 90 days from when you submit your paperwork, its "supposed" to be 60 days from when your request hits the review process, which took another member 4 months to receive from the time his was in review. DFAS is completely jacked up.

Hurry up and wait..lol... hopefully you see your money soon. I am not concerned with getting the taxes back fast as long as my severance does take more than 60 days I will be happy.. also I have 14 years and 7 months active duty, will they pay severance based on 14 years or 15 years of service??? I tried to get info from DFAS but they are acting like it's top secret stuff....lol

what he said :) ^^^ they round up.

How do I find out how much my severance amount is to ensure it has been paid out correctly. I know what it should be based on the 2Xbase payXyears served but my orders do not say SM will get $____ X amount of dollars. When did you find out the exact amount to be paid/taxed?

In addition to my last question, At what % is the severance taxed (25%? 38%?) Can someone who received an amount say what taxes were held so I can calculate what % will likely be held from mine?

I found out by my updated RAS statement in myPay. My severance was taxed at 25%. How many years do you have? Unfortunately, your orders will not tell you the amount. You will get a letter from DFAS with the breakdown of the severance payment (what you got, what was taxed, etc)
