When will I receive my severance pay

I found out by my updated RAS statement in myPay. My severance was taxed at 25%. How many years do you have? Unfortunately, your orders will not tell you the amount. You will get a letter from DFAS with the breakdown of the severance payment (what you got, what was taxed, etc)
I served 9 years and left as a SSG(P). How long did this letter from DFAS take to come in after orders were received?

My orders were dated 12 March 2019, I received my severance pay on 21 June 2019, and the letter from DFAS on 26 June 2019. This is how they calculated my severance (13 years of service, got out as an E-7):

This is the part in my orders that states my severance was not taxable:

My orders say....
Percentage of desability: 20%
--You are entitled to severance pay
--The desability did result from a combat related injury as defined in 26 USC 104. YES
--The desability was incurred in a combat zone.........as designated by the secretary of defense 10 USC 1212 NDAA 08, sec 1646...YES

QUESTION.. if I am reading this right the VA is not allowed to recoup my severance pay right????

Correct, the VA should not recoup your severance pay based on this excerpt from this website -- Separation Pay & VA Disability Compensation | CCK Law

"VA is not allowed to recoup disability severance pay from VA disability compensation if you…
  • Separated from service on or after January 28, 2008, and
  • Incurred the disability for which you received the disability severance pay in the line of duty in a combat zone or during combat-related operations."

One last question..
Do you know if DFAS used 2019 pay chart or the one when you were placed on TDRL to calculate your severance.. thank so much for your help with all this ???

I believe it is when you were placed on TDRL. So mine was calculated from the 2017 pay chart. And no worries, ask all the questions you need!

I received my separation orders March 12 and my discharge certificate April 1. So my benefits ended as of April 1, 2019. Your letter will tell you that your Tricare benefits end and you are directed to return your retired ID card.

I was originally on TDRL in June 2019 they re-evaluated me and concluded the injury was not going to get better so I am now medically separated. I received the letter to inform me on September 12, 2019. It is now December 3, 2019 and I still have not received my severance pay. All I’m being told is it’s completed and in review. Does anyone know how long it will take?
Did you receive your severance payment yet?

Hurry up and wait..lol... hopefully you see your money soon. I am not concerned with getting the taxes back fast as long as my severance does take more than 60 days I will be happy.. also I have 14 years and 7 months active duty, will they pay severance based on 14 years or 15 years of service??? I tried to get info from DFAS but they are acting like it's top secret stuff....lol
I also received my tax refund yesterday! Forgot to mention that.

Am I safe in assuming I am permitted to use my ID card until I receive my Severance? Also what about my Military Star Card? How will I use it if I am no longer given access? What about the balance I owe on it to AAFEES? Do my dependents get Tricare until my severance is received? Do my dependents have to return their ID card as well?

I do not believe so, I received my severance after I turned in my ID card. You will also receive your discharge certificate as well. I turned my ID card in within a few days after I received my discharge certificate - my husband also turned in his dependent ID. I received my severance later in Jun. I am fairly certain that ALL Tricare benefits will end across the board, including dependents. I am not sure about the Star card, never had one of those, but since you have to turn in the ID card, that will affect going on base and into the exchange/commissary.

The Defense Department has announced expanded commissary, Military Service Exchange and MWR access beginning Jan. 1, 2020, and established a standard for physical access to military installations.

Veterans and primary family caregivers who are eligible and want to take advantage of in-person benefits must have a Veterans Health Identification Card, or VHIC. My brother visits an USAF base in Louisiana and uses the PX/BX with his new VA ID card.

The Military STAR card can be used at the exchanges of all branches of service and online at the exchange websites. Veterans (with Exchange access) active duty, reservist, retired service member, military spouses and dependents are all eligible to apply for a Military Star Card.

I completely forgot about this recent benefit, thanks for the info and the reminder for me to go get this VHIC card!

I have already returned my I'd card but my tricare benefits have not ended yet. I took my son the the ER yesterday and I called tricare before to make sure and they said that I was good to go.. my orders don't have any information. I called deers and they said that as far as they were concerned my tricare benefits have not ended. Dfas has already stopped my monthly payments and they received my orders 29-Jan-2020. I hate not knowing.

I am not sure, I just know that my orders stated that my Tricare was ending. Tricare didnt know anything though because they continued to send me stuff and were wondering why I did not renew my healthcare.

I received a package from TDRL with my Honorable Discharge and an envelope asking me to return my ID card. Does this indicate I am close to receiving my Severance? My Separation date in 6 Feb so I assume I have no more insurance/Tricare as of that date but I have not received my Severance either. Seems like a let down from DFAS. Does anyone have an updated timeline from DFAS on how long it takes to receive Severance after orders?

I have not received my severance either. DFAS have received my orders 29-Jan-2020 and still nothing. It looks like is going to be a long wait, they said 30 to 60 days but most people say around 90 days.
