  • Hi Jason. Just wanted top say hi and hope everything is going good for you. I am adjusting to civilian life and headed back to school early next year
    Jason,
    I was presented with my PEB findings two days ago. I need your advice...
    I am over 20yrs active duty with the Navy. I have MS, RA, PTSD related cognitive disorder, and lastly Traumatice closed head injury.

    I am being offered 70%, unfit. My confusion is that I am being placed on TDRL, not PDRL. The last time I checked with my Docs, MS and RA are a permanent disabiltiy. They stated in additional findings "The disabilitty may be permanent"...WTF. Please advice, am I missing something? MY PEBLO is going to look into this also??? Is this sentence making me TDRL? Why did the board find me at TDRL, over 20 with 2 permanent dasabilitating diagnosis. Thank you in advance. I have untill Dec 2 to accept or not.

    Thank you for your assistance. Another issue. I saw that if the military gives 20% and severance pay the VA CAN offset it if it is for the same disability? Now my question is...I was already 30% service-connected fro inuries sustained 1992-1996 before the PEB; previously stated my stat; I have 4 LODs and I don't have the 199 yet, in the event that I was given 20% based on the injuries for the 30% I am already receiving...will they offset? My unit was aware in 2001 I was S/C and failed all the physicals...During the waiting process I incurred 2 more LODs being in the Reserves.. therefore at this point I don't know how to do this 20% with severance pay...( I hope I am not confusing)
    Hello Jason..I did the Congressional and I received a call form the PEBLO in Fot Benning Ga stating that I was given 20% with a severance pay. Now I have a link I want you to view and tell me if this applies to me...I have 16 yrs total service time and will I have to have my VA offset? I was already receiving 30% rating by the VA before this occurred?Disability Severance Pay

    Thank you for your assistance...
    Do you know of any student loan benefits for service connected soldiers? We are still dealing with waiting for the MN Guard to do my husband's fit for duty appointment. They did a paper review in October and said they wanted to set up something for November to see him in person but are not responding to our inquiries as to when that will happen. In the meantime, they are saying they've fullfilled their student loan repayment obligation, when in fact, they have not. We are delinquent on his loans and Sallie Mae is calling every day to get their money. Nothing in this process seems to be moving and I'm extremely frustrated. What should I do?
    I am new to all this. I have just recently been recommended for MEB. I have been reading as many posts as I can on this. What is TDRL? What is CRSC? Am I allowed to get army medical retirement and VA?

    Thank you in advance for your help.
    There is so much involved in this process and I really don't have a grasp on any of it. What exactly is a an Independent Medical Advisor? Will they have to be knowledgeable about the MEB/PEB process? Where could I find such a person?

    I'm not entirely confident that I will be medically retired, but that is certainly my goal. No one can give me any idea about the rating that they may grant me. I'm sure they've received guidance to not do so. But the uncertainty is driving me crazy!

    I'm definitely prepared to seek counsel if the findings are anything less than the 30% that I will need. Are there any avenues I should take to ensure that everything goes all right? Or should we cross that bridge when we come to it?

    My PEBLO told me that this week the Reviewing Medical Officers will have received my file, signed it and returned it to me, await my concur or non-concur signature and off to Ft. Sam PEB it goes. I was wondering if this is too far along in the process to pursue any services you render regarding the MEB? I took a look at your website and it mentioned "early in the process" I just don't know how early is early.
    Jason, this is what you replied a while back... The two issues are what conditions make you unfit and of those, what criteria you meet under the VASRD. I don't mean to be cryptic, I just can't guess at what they are saying in your file.

    So I'm just wondering, what do you need to know about my file to give me a better idea of what to expect? Also, I still can't find the criteria I meet under the VASRD, except for:

    4.97 Schedule of Ratings-respiratory system, code 6514

    Following radical surgery with chronic osteomyelitis, or; near constant sinusitis characterized by headaches, pain and tenderness of affected sinus, and purulent discharge or crusting after repeated surgeries
    RATING = 50

    Three or more incapacitating episodes per year of sinusitis requiring prolonged (lasting four to six weeks) antibiotic treatment, or; more than six non-incapacitating episodes per year of sinusitis characterized by headaches, pain, and purulent discharge or crusting
    RATING = 30

    Is this even the right area to search? I can't find anything on nasopharyngeal angiofibroma which is what I had surgery for... just wondering if you could give me an idea of what to expect the board at Randolph AFB to decide. if you need more info, just let me know what you need... I just really don't know who else to ask, and you definitely seem like the most qualified to answer my questions... also, I searched for USAF MEB due to Nasopharyngeal Angiofibroma for an hour and found NOTHING!! I'd really appreciate any help/advice, so thanks in advance,

    Thanks Jason for website that helps the soldier instead of the system. I am currently awaiting phase 2 of MEB board (exactly what that involves I don't know).
    With the way things go with this MEB process it fells like your trying to beat the house in Vegas and thats really hard to do,,Thanks for sorting it out and at least making the odds a little better for us
    Just wanted to give you an update on my son's situation - you had brought up the fact that the Army was re-evaluating all cases of PTSD due to under-rating them.

    Son received a phone call from the transition office today wanting to make an appointment with him so they can do the final paperwork for discharge.

    They didn't say anything about the status of his packet being sent back. So he called his case manager and was informed that his packet was never on the list to be sent back to Fort Lewis. The delay was for his grade determination.

    Wasn't the Army going to re-consider ALL 10% PTSD disability packets?

    Son will be trying to find out tomorrow why his packet wasn't one of the ones sent back for re-evaluation.

    Here's the thread that I started on this -

    Jason thank you I will look into all this and try and get someone up here to help me. i have to do something. He was at the ER last night because his entire side of his left face hurt, felt like pressure and the ER only gave him some pain meds...
    Tara,

    It may be helpful to have assistance at the Board. In my opinion, early preparation can pay off with a better result. However, be aware that any decision about what level of benefits to accept should be made with an analysis of the impact of his CRSC and VA benefits on his overall compensation.
    Jason,
    He was a E5 in Ft Drum NY 4-31inf. He has VA benefits now. He gets 100% from them. We haven't looked into the Combat Related one but will thank you for that. My husband has another PEB coming up. He knows to bring all records from doctors now and before. Should he call someone to help him with the PEB board. Oh he had 6 years in before he was injured

    I will get more information from my husband but I know that he is only temporarly retired so he tells me. I unfortuntly have little knowledge of this all as I met him while he was in recovery. I am starting to see what I can do because I feel he isn't getting what he deserves. It isn't the money we need but feel for my husband he deserves more than 30%. I will find out more from him and let you know.
    Jason I am wife of an injured solider I guess looking for some help. I my husband was medically retired from the army only temporarly at 30%. I don't believe this is enough seems how VA has retired him at over 100% and he also collects from SS now. He was hit by a roadside bomb in Iraq in 2005. He has shrapnel in his head, left shoulder and some in his left ear. He has no hearing in his left ear, cronic head aches, migranes, gets dizzy. He also has issues with his back and shouler as well. He has a TBI and also short term memory lost. I am just looking to see what we can do to fight this 30%.... Any help would be great

    Hello again,
    In prepping for an MEB, are PCM's and PA's supposed to include all health conditions? History of problems, etc incurred while in service?
