Advertisments are gone- for now!

Advertisement with Google have been a way that I have used to help defray the costs of running this forum. They were "fine" for that purpose and have definitely helped. Still, they always annoyed me (I have the ability to turn them off for certain groups or members, but, I kept them on for me so that I could see what members see). Well, they annoyed me to the point that I have- at least temporarily- killed ads on the PEB FORUM. I have some ideas about the way forward for the site and I think that there is a lot more that I can do to make the site better. My original hope (once upon a time) was that if every member who just dropped in and was willing to donate about $1 monthly, I would have enough money to make this community so much better (I just looked at Analytics and I am showing about 3K users logging in every month on average). With that kind of support, I think I could do incredible things with the site, content wise, site wise, and also thinking better, do great things...

Jason Perry submitted a new resource: SECNAVINST 1850.4F - DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY DISABILITY EVALUATION SYSTEM Regulation
The DoN has changed its DES regulations (effective 27 JUN 2019). This regulation supersedes the previous SECNAVINST 1850.4E. It is much shorter than the previous version, however, there is an additional new regulation, SECNAV M-1850.1 (September 2019), which covers many important issues and provides detailed guidance. (I will post that resource separately).

The Department of Defense recently updated the timelines for processing of IDES cases. The resource for DoD Directive-Type Memorandum (DTM)-18-004 – “Revised Timeliness Goals for the Integrated Disability Evaluation System (IDES)," can be found here: https://www.pebforum.com/resources/...04-revised-timeliness-goals-for-the-ides.100/ I intend to post a detailed timeline at each phase in the future. For now, know that the overall processing of IDES cases should be processed faster (from 295 days to 230 days- basically, two months faster). Note the effective date is July 30, 2018.

Word Around the Campfire- Interesting developments!

campfire.jpg Just a heads up on a few tidbits of information that may be of interest to folks! First, the Army is apparently consolidating the PEB sites to San Antonio (Joint Base San Antonio-Sam Houston). I have heard from two sources that the Army is moving all PEB operations to JBSA San Antonio. This includes the Army Physical Disability Agency. Next, it is my understanding that the Coast Guard is working on a separate agreement with the Department of Veterans Affairs to implement an "IDES-like" system, where the Coastie will be rated by the VA for any conditions found unfitting by the Coast Guard. This is technically not the IDES, but the end result is supposed to be the same.

This SECNAVINST was issued yesterday. My cursory review is that it is generally in accordance with law and regulations. However, I have deep concerns about the execution of this Instruction.
